I'm getting ready to start practicing with candy clay and gumpaste can someone tell me what the difference is? I've been looking at the recipes here and now I am very confused. I bought gumtex thinking I had to use it in the recipe but now I can't find the recipe that required it. It seems that candy clay is just syrup and candy buttons. One recipe calls for liquid gluecose and I have not seen this anywhere, can someone tell me what I am looking for? Is it like sugar twin etc? Any help would be appreciated. I'm still trying to figure out how to search this site correctly LOL icon_biggrin.gif Not on here enough to get used to it yet I guess.
I will be using the clay or gum paste for the dragonfly bodies and some flowers so maybe you can direct me as to which I should use. Thanks.
Oh....and I just thought too....isn't there somewhere on here it describes how to make a lattice gazebo etc. from royal frosting? I can't find that again either. Am I just not typing the search correctly?

First off..the only recipe I've ever seen for candy clay is the corn syrup and chocolate wafers(buttons).

Glucose can generally be found in the cake decorating section of craft stores, or cake decorator's stores.

Searching on this site......can't help much there...still learning how to get around myself, but maybe this will bump you up so that someone else can reply that knows their way around hereicon_biggrin.gif

Glucose is very thick corn syrup I think its usually used when you make homemade fondant. When I make candy clay I just use corn syrup. Gum tex is added to fondant to make it more flexible so you can roll it out thinner then reg. fondant and it helps to make it dry faster when making ribbons and molds.
Its very easy to work with candy clay I made strawberries for one of my cakes since they weren't in season.

Thank you both very much, I really appreciate the help. I just manage to get a gumpaste kit on EBay for 10.50...no book but lots of cutters/molds and hopefully I will be able to figure them out.
When I bought my supplies I also bought a tin of gumpaste just in case (probably) my homemade didn't taste good so maybe I will start playing with it to get a feel for this. I really want to try an asiatic lily although they would be far too big for the cake....I just think it would be awesome to make and paint one.

baking911.com is the only site i could find with any recipes for gumpaste. not fondant with gumpaste but the gumpaste recipe itself. has both recipes on there, the one for gumtex gumpaste and the one for tylose based gumpaste. If I am not mistaken, you can use light corn syrup instead of the glucose syrup. BTW the recipe for gumpaste is on the canister of gumtex. just use corn syrup instead of the glucose.
