I have a request for a birthday cake for a one year old boy. They want me to incorporate basketball, soccer, baseball, and football into the design. I didn't think it would be a challenge, but now I'm struggling to come up with something.

edit: my cake is finished! Thanks for everyone's help. You can see it on my blog at: http://cakespace.blogspot.com/

Let me know what you think!

Hello. I am thinking about the cake you need to do and am thinking you can put like a football, soccer ball, baseball, and basketball on the top of the cake-but make them half like the other half is in the cake. And do some simple piping on the borders and bottom.
OR
You can also put the balls on the side of the cake like half (seeming that the other half is inside the cake). and do whatever on the top with simple boy piping.

Just an idea! Good Luck!

You could do a quilting pattern and rotate the different sports balls in the diamond or squares. (which ever you use for the quilting pattern).

You could put the 4 balls in the center and then have the cake quartered and make each quarter into a different sport. The sides and/or bottom could be green and use a grass tip.

Why not make the cake a basket and have all the different sports equipment piled "inside" the basket? That would look cute IMO.

Go to the galleries and do a search on "sports" - there are 4 or 5 cakes that meet your criteria perfectly - you could get some great ideas for your cake! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone! I've started a cake and have it mostly done. Will post when completed. Here's what I've done... made a tiered cake with a 10" base and 6" top. Have mini ball cakes in between the tiers. So, it's quartered in a way... have one ball between each set of pillars. Made grass at the base and around the balls and the lower tier is a light green in color. Top tier is sky blue with clouds piped on and around. I think I'm going to pipe on a sun at the very top and do my writing on the sides of the tiers. I've never written on the side of a cake, so wish me luck! So far it's cute, but I have to deliver it already assembled, so hope everything holds together ok! We're only going about 2 miles. icon_rolleyes.gif
