tapedshut.gif First, i am really mad! I've been bringing cakes for coworkers birthdays since last summer. This week DS & I ended up w/ the flu and there were two office birthdays that I didnt' do. An independent contractor that has a desk in our office called me at work this morning to tell me he'd be in at 2 (he never arrives before 2) and could we "hold off" until he gets there? Then he says, "you did make me a cake didn't you? you know, my birthday is tomorrow". So I told him No I did not!!! He knew i was out sick. GRRR!

Now I had planned to make him a cake and bring it in Monday - but I need an insulting cake idea to let him know how mad I am! I was thinking of a beaver dam or something saying "Here's your DAM cake!" Anyone have any better ideas?? You are all so creative!

Haha! I love the dam cake idea. Too bad it's not a woman cuz you could do a Stewie cake with one of his laser rays saying, "You vile woman!" That would be funny too!

Could you do a caveman? That could be subtly insulting icon_smile.gif

I'm doing coworkers birthdays this year also. Wow, that is pretty BRAZEN on the consultant's part! I think I would have to pick up a Dairy Queen (or a Wally World cake depending on my mean streak mood level.)

I love the "DAM" cake idea too!!!

You know, I don't know why... but I always get "volunteered" to do the cakes in my office too! (for all occasions!) And, of course, it's coming out of my pocket. Then yesterday someone came to me at 4:50pm and wanted to know if I could make cupcakes last night because today is a coworker's (in the same college, but not same office) last day! Like I don't have other things to do..... I have a 3 year old, and a new puppy!!! LOL

It makes it hard when it is expected of you... and that is time consuming and expensive when you include your time! (and hubby doesn't always get as excited about cakes as me!) I usually try out new recipes and such on them.... because heck, if I'm doing it for free, it doesn't have to be the best ever....

Make sure you post pictures of the cake that you make! I would love to see it!!!!

LOL - had to share - the guy who's birthday i missed on wednesday brought leftover birthday cake in today that his wife bought him from a bakery. One of my other coworkers took a piece and left it on the contractor's desk with a sticky note that says, 'sorry. we couldn't hold off' icon_lol.gif

Thanks guys for your suggestions! I don't think he'd "get" the Stewie cake - this guy hasn't had a tv in his house in 20 years. I guess I"ll give the dam cake a try...

tiptop - the funny thing is, we're not 100 feet away from a Waldbaums that does those type of cakes so he'd better be careful what he wishes for!

laylasmommy - you're right - it's hard when it becomes expected of you! I mean, I had the flu for crying out loud!! and it does take a lot more time than people realize. Every once in a while they pitch in and donate but not generally enough to cover costs. I hope you didnt' do the cupcakes!! Talk about last minute...

I definitely like the dam cake idea. If you're thinking of putting a beaver on there, give it some facial features that the man has like glasses or a mustache.

I have been doing cakes for a while, but if its expected of you to do a cake & you do it, then its always going to be expected. I say dont do it when they expect it. Cause I would not do it all the time cause they would expect it for "free". Am I making sense?

Here's an idea: tell your coworkers that you can no longer cake decorate "pro bono" or however that saying goes (and spelled for that matter). If they would like cakes made, the least they could do is take up a donation.

I don't know how you'd feel about this, because you might be one of those people thatjust can't say no, but it's an idea.

I mean, look at the expenses coming out of your pocket!! Just add it up for one year....not to mention your time!

That cake is soooo adorable. I hope that you put a piece of paper next to it saying "here's your dam cake" because he's to stupid to figure it out himself! Way to keep you head under pressure, yet get a stab in!!!! thumbs_up.gif
