Hi y'all,
I am thinking about entering a cake in the Washington Cake Show at the end of April. I've only been decorating about 3 1/2 months now. Do you think I am ready or should I wait. I think it would be exciting icon_biggrin.gif
Please let me know... I really need y'all to help me decide.

If you feel confident enough to do it, then go ahead, why not?? It's all learning.
Im still to get the courage to do it, maybe this year i will enter something.

I think it is more like I have confidence in the picture I have in my head. Making it show up on a cake is another whole story icon_sad.gif I just wish I could create what I envision.

I say go for it! thumbs_up.gif If nothing else, look at the experience you will be getting by just being in a competition. Like you said, you will be in a category with decorators who have the same experience. Plus, what a thing to be able to say to potential customers - "I have participated in State-wide decorating competitions" - wow!

We are going to our first competition in a few weeks in Austin, Texas. My friend will be doing her first competition cake! I am so proud of her! icon_biggrin.gif

As cake baking/decorating addicts, it's wonderful to be able to share all of our "firsts" with our CC family! Can't wait to see your cake, and hear about your experience thumbs_up.gif

I'm with mommymarilyn. At the very least you will gain experience in this area. But you will have fun, and could win (which I know it's not all about winning, but that will help you "sell" yourself as a decorator even more).

You are obviously confident, and you should be. You do a wonderful job!

Good luck and keep us posted!

This got me thinking...
I'm going to the show in Austin, TX in a few weeks and never even thought of entering b/c I'm so new. But should I? (Don't go by the pic in my gallery as that was my first.) I'm a very competitive person and think this might be a lot of fun. I could even wait and regsiter on-site so if I decided to back out at the last minute I wouldn't be out any money. Hmmmm.....

icon_smile.gif Hi,
What are the rules ? like what are the cakes gonna be judged on ?
Is this purely decorating ? I won Best of Show last year in California.
It was based on taste, flavor and over all. I got perfect score of 100%..

I also got Best of Class, Best of Division and Blue Ribbon (First Place)..

I say go for it..work as hard as your can. I did my flowers 3 months ahead of time, and I practiced baking my cake every week-end until I got the right flavor and all that. Go for it, and let us know..

Good Luck .. icon_smile.gifthumbs_up.gif

The TX show has a category for taste alone and the rest are all based on appearance. http://www.allinonebakeshop.com/clubandevents.asp

Do most contests charge you for entering? I saw one in Phila that I *thought* about entering, but the entrance fee was $75 and I honestly didn't want to waste the money.

The TX one's late fee is $25. I don't know if I should enter mostly b/c I've never been to a show before and don't know what to expect. Maybe I should attend one first. I've only ever watched them on TV. That said, go for it Lazy Susan!
