how do i get the wood grain effect on fondant. i want to make a table & don't know how to get the look

You can buy impression mats in all sorts of different designs. I've seen brick, cobblestone, wood...They're not terribly expensive either. You could try sugarcraft.com.

You can order impression mats online, if you can't find anyone locally who carries them. Sugarcraft has some good ones:

There's also a tool used to make paint look woodgrain - it's like a rubber stamp almost. I used that on my fondant basket cakes.

I agree with the impression mats. I have actually just purchased some. Haven't needed them yet buthave played around with them. I love the look they give. Also ordered from sugarcraft icon_smile.gif

You can buy a woodgrain textured rolling pin or you can "score" the fondant with a toothpick and then paint it with diluted colouring. The latter suggestion is taken from one of my Debbie Brown books.

I got little rolling pin from www.creativecutters.com adn that's what I used on my bowling cake...
It's CHEAP (about $5) but you will likely need to shave a little off the edges to make it roll nicely (mine used to stick a bit until I trimed it)

this is totally off topic, but alking about impression mats made me realize that i bought one a while ago that has the dots on it. which way do you use it on fondant? to make indentions or backwards to make dots?
