I am making a cake today and have made the whipped cream buttercream icing. I also made cookies and cream filling for the cake....My question is this, the buttercream recipe says not to refrigerate, but I have to keep the cake on ice with the cookies and cream filling. Will it be ok to refrigerate the cake with this icing. It reminds me of WBH buttercream which is ok to go in the refridgerator but needs to come back to room temp before serving.....Is this the same case with this icing???

TIA
Cindy

If its the recipe I think it is, it will be fine refrigerated. It will just need to be left at room temperature to cut b/c it will get fairly thick/dense/hard like thick bc. I put a whole container of freshly made icing in the fridge forgetting it didn't need to go there, and just let it sit out to use.

The recipe i used is here on cakecentral as creamy dreamy whipped cream icing or something like that. There is a modified version of the same recipe here http://webmall1.com/sweetdreams/boardrecipes.htm. Click on the link then search the page for "dreamy". The modified recipe actually crusts and is a bit sweeter than the original but still is not as sweet as regular buttercream. I used it this weekend for my sister's cake and everyone loved it!

This is the one refered to I believe. I make it ALL the time Great stuff. EVERYONE likes it. even the ones who like sweet icing. I have done a lot with it and use it on my wedding cakes and mix for fillings. BIG HIT.
But it does not have to be made in two seperate bowls like I use to do.
Here is a link to the way it is done in one bowl.

there are a lot of good recipied there but the one I'm talking about is the 2nd one on the list. The origional is also on there with a lot of tips to use and vary the recipe.
Hope it helps

Thanks all for the info. I did put it in the refrigerator and it seems to be fine. Will take it out for a bit before serving. Boy, It tastes way better than regular butter cream as far as i"m concerned. I don't care for the other because it is so sweet. And that Cookies and Cream filling is soooo good!!!
