I hope it is OK to post this here, as not too many people saw it in the "Events" forum.

I am wondering if anyone else from CC knows they are going to Cake Camp in Las Vegas in September. It looks like it will be fun and I was hoping that we could get a bunch of CC people together for coffee or dinner or something.....

Info is at http://www.cakecamp.com and you don't have to be from California to come.

Hi: You have been reading my mind. I was thinking of posting the exact question. I have been checking on the price of the airfair and the hotel room and classes. I guess I'll be baking a lot of cakes, cookies, and candies to make the amt. needed, but I would love to go. I'm going to work very hard to get the money up and go. Vicki0052.
PS: There's going to be a cruise to Alaska in Sept. 2007 from cakecamp and I would love to go to that also.

It is a "Definite Maybe" that I am going. Just trying to make up my mind as to what classes to take. I am looking at the classes and then checking to see who has books and/or videos on the classes they teach to see if I can either be prepared or perhaps the video will help enough that I won't need to take a particular class. Also, I could feel a little intimidated by these classes because my talents are pretty limited in the cake dec. world. Fearlessbaker

I am definitely going, practically counting the days. A get together of some kind would be fun. Perhaps we can make some arrangements when it gets a little closer.

Okay, so I e-mailed Colette Peters...
I wanted to find out if her "Become Michelangelo" class would be way over my head since I'm new and this is a hobby-she replied (which surprised the heck out of me) and said that she wouldn't be able to take the time to show me the beginner things but I could take the class if I wanted to-now I really don't know what to do-when else would I have a chance to take a class like that from someone like her...but I don't want to sit in and be embarrassed and waste $200-
Share your thoughts....

I would guess she means covering the cake with fondant as one of the basics. Take a look to see if her Michaelanglo cake is on her website. Then you would have a better idea what you are in for.

If you have worked with fondant, I would say go for it.

nope, I even skipped that Wilton class because the one time I used fondant no one would eat it (MMF)
So, I'll take the Wilton class, and any others I can find, and practice for the next 5 months-
JoAnnB, are you taking that class? I think itsacake is-it'll be an adventure.

After readidng Buttercup's message, I don't think I will take colletes class. For years all I have done is scratch baking and decorate with chocolate, ribbons, flowers, etc. Just staarting with the box mixes and the buttercream etc. Today I took a 2 hour airbrush class and the teacher said I have the ability to take C.P's class. Now, I don't think so. But I am still going to Vegas. I live in L.A. so airfare is not that much of an issue for me and that helps. Fearlessbaker

Yup. I am taking the class. Perhaps I will be embarassed. It won't be the first time in my life. I'm a confirmed klutz (and getting used to it.) In any case, I'll learn something. Maybe a little and maybe a lot. But if I didn't do it, I'd always wonder if I missed an opportunity. I think practicing a bit between now and then is a good idea. I'm also taking her piping class and can't pipe to save my soul. I signed up as a challenge to myself. The worst that can happen is I"ll feel like an idiot, but I know I'll learn SOMETHING.

The last thing I wanted to do was give you second thoughts about taking the class fearlessbaker-if anything, you should have comfort that there would be someone else there who is worse off than you- c'mon, live up to your name...

I am not taking Colette's class, I can't recall what I chose that conflicts with that one. But, none of you should be afraid to just go for it.

Practice a bit with fondant, so you at least will have a good surface to work on. IT ONLY CAKE! So you don't need to be embarrased if your Michelangelo looks more like Mike Myers!

The wait is killing me.

Hi Everyone: One tuesday there's going to be a dinner of some kind so those that go should met up and eat together. The air fare is going to kill me, so I'll be baking cakes from now until Sept. just to pay for it. I can't wait to attend this. This should be such fun. Vicki0052.

In the classroom configuration most rooms will be capable of comfortably handling 40 students. Each presenter then has their own min and max per class depending on how involved.

On Tuesday night will be a Gala Banquet - usually a ton of fun!!

Registration is now open!

If you register early and select only a few classes then decide to add more classes later, please make sure you include your original registration invoice number with the additional classes.

If the CCers want to get together during the event, I am sure something can be arranged.
