Hi everyone! My friend and I finished our 1st wedding cake this past weekend, and we are so excited about it! The you can see it in my pictures. Her name is April (Ape on this forum). I did another wedding cake but it was 22 years ago! When I went to pick up the plates, fountain, etc. yesterday, 3 people asked for my card! That's pretty good considering we had the following to deal with:

1) I was sick on Friday so we started on the cakes 8AM Saturday and made it to the reception hall at 2PM to put everything together.
2) April has 3 kids - 17 months, 3 years old, and 4 years old - who couldn't understand why we couldn't play and watch videos with them while we were working on the cakes!
3) The A/C wasn't working in the hall and it felt like it was 95 degrees in the hall! We are in Houston, and trust me, it's not winter-time here anymore! I was worried the icing was going to slide off the cake! (It was repaired by the time we finished)
4) The table was set up on the 2nd floor balconey, so we had to improvise and add flowers to the back of the bridge.
5) The floor wasn't level, so we had to tear up cake boxes to get cardboard to put under the table.
6) The mother of the bride asked if we could find room on the bride's table for the groom's cake (someone else had made it) - we barely had room for the wedding cake! So we had to find a table and set it up for the groom's cake.
7) The sister-in-law of the bride, who was also the caterer, asked "so all you had to do was decorate a cake?" (HAHAHAHAHAHA)

Even with all of that, I think we did very well! We definitely learned a lot from this experience! Just had to share with all of our friends here who can understand what we went through, and why we would even consider doing this again!

That cake is sooooo beautiful. Haven't had a request for stairs yet, I may panic if someone does.

You did great for all the obstacles. You is a TRUE decorator.
