How do I make small 3-D trees on a cake. Am making a golf cake and want to add trees but not sure how.

Not sure exactly what kinds of trees you are wanting, but this past Christmas I used Oreo ice cream cones and piped royal icing with the grass tip to them look like Christmas trees. They really looked great, of course I piped colored balls and stuff, but you would not want that on there now, anyway.

Good luck!

Try doing a search for "tree" in the gallery. I just did that, and it came back with a lot of pics. Maybe find the kind you want to do and email/msg the person who made the cake?

Maybe someone who knows more than I do can help you figure out which tip it is that most pple use. I've never done one and can't remember which tips have been recommended.

But trust me, ask a question here and it WILL get replies. Help is on the wayicon_biggrin.gif cause everyone is soooooo great!

Like already suggested, an ice cream cone works great. You can cut it down if it is to tall. I used a tip 14 to do mine.

There is a tutorial

Good luck and make sure to post some pictures.

I make all of my trees out of fondant...with a pinch of gum tex, let that harden, then use a leaf tip and by varying the pressure u get different size branchesicon_smile.gif
Or...havent tried this one yet..but saw some people are using marshmallows for the base... hope your trees turn out well

Thanks for all the quick responses! I do know of the technique of using ice cream cones, but this is a last minute cake order and I do not have any of those on hand. I may try using fondant to make them, how important is adding the gum-tex because that is not something I have?

Are you using royal icing?

If you are, use a piece of wax paper or parchment and shape it in to a Cone. You can then use that as the form for the base of the tree instead of the ice cream cone. Pipe the "petals" on to that instead.

I have rolled some fondant around a pretzel rod and then made fondant leaves on top....
