Help, need ideas for an American Indian cake due 3/31. Customer needs a cake to feed 12 to 15 so I figure a 8x2 double layer. She wants pineapple caramel filling with caramel icing. Does anyone have any good ideas for decorating.
Well I would find out what nation this is for. For example if it is for a Southwestern nation a version of a sand drawing would be cool, or a picture of a Thunderbird. If its for a southern region nation a mound would be nice. Or you could duplicate a piece of Hopi jewelery. I think the best thing to do would be to Google search Native American art and tehn hit images and surf those for a while...
I will ask the customer but I do not think she knows what region. She just said Indian. Thanks for the idea.
Ok well since you are in Tennessee I will hazard a guess, Cherokee is a predominant nation right? They create the most beautiful beadwork, its what they're know for, so maybe something inspired by that, although with a caramel frosting I don't knwo how that would work...
I don't have any advice, but wanted to say that the pineapple caramel filling and caramel icing sound great! What kind of cake will it be? Do you have a recipe for the filling/icing?
Cake will be a yellow cake. The filling will be made with homemade caramel and IMBC. The icing will be caramel flavored IMBC.
TN is predominately CHerokee, but there are aslso a few branchesof Creek & Choctaw left. An idea is to do a dream catcher on the cake. They are simple to make with MMF & then use black bc to pipe the "webbing" in the center. Different stones are used in the webbing to bring certain dreamsor repell bad spirits in Cherokee legend. you could lay the dream catcher on the top of the cake & make the bindings hang down & attach MMF feathers painted with gel colors or luster dust. There are plenty of pics of dream catchers all over the internet.

The book Colette's Cakes has an Indian Beaded Cake that is pretty cool. The whole cake looks like it's covered in beads.
You might check your local library to see if they have a copy of the book.
