I'm making my first cake and I got piping gel to help stick at the bottom. Other than that I don't understand how it works in decorating. I'd like to try it, but I don't have a clue what I'm doing with it.

You can use piping gel to write with or you can do a gel transfer. trace a picture you like on tracing paper color the gel in black trace the picture you did with the black turn it upside down and put on top of the cake being careful nor to move it to much lift it off and the picture is transfered to the top of your cake. Begin to trace the cake transfer in the black then fill in in the colors you want. You can also add a little of it to your BC to make embrodiry work and when your working with fondant you use it to attach the fondant to the bottom edge of your cake. Handy stuff to have around.
