Hi everyone,

I recently started decorating cakes and am definitely addicted. My fiance has requested a couple of Star Trek themed cakes. I have looked on line and haven't really found a lot of ideas. I would really appreciate any suggestions, etc.

thanks

Hi there and welcome to CC, or as we really like to say, welcome to our addiction! Hey, there are worse things to be addicted to! icon_biggrin.gif

I did a Star Trek cake and you are right, it was difficult to find ideas on-line. I opted to go for one of the Starfleet badge thingies...see, can't even remember what it was, however I did get the idea from thecakecorner.com. If you look in my photos you will see it, it's pretty straightforward. I really wanted to do the USS Enterprise however I didn't plan things properly.

Good luck and welcome again!

Cat, it would help generate ideas if you could narrow down which Star Trek your fiance likes. Original Star Trek (60's), Star Trek: Next Generation (80's), Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, or Star Trek movies, good grief I can't even remember how many there were...six? Seven? Each series has its own specific badging, ships, and props. If you're trying to please a real Trekophile, the differences are immense. For most, um, "normal" people, a communicator is a communicator.... but Trekkies are a different breed. icon_lol.gif

Once you've pinned him down on which time period you're trying to cover, then you can do a google image search and ideas will probably jump at you. The Wilton T-shirt cake dressed as a Star Fleet uniform of the correct period is usually well-received. Cakes can be fashioned without too much difficulty in the shape of a phaser, communicator, tricorder, or shuttlecraft. The USS Enterprise would be tough to fashion in 3D, but an image on a sheetcake, while not as flashy, is definitely do-able. Maybe one could be fashioned out of fondant? Hmmmm....

Good luck!!! Would love to see whatever comes of this. thumbs_up.gif

I know I will date myself with this answer, but a pile of Star Trek Tribbles would be cool in my book.

I remember that episode! (And, yes, I watched it when it was a 'new episode' -- in glorious black-and-white. How sad is that?) icon_cry.gifthumbs_up.gif

I can see Tribbles being made with the mini-egg mold and lots of stiff buttercream through the "fur and grass" tip, but colorwise, what would you use? Would be cute to have 'em piled all over the cake, if fiance is an old-time Trekkie.

Thanks for the welcome, BriansBaker -- been around for a while, mostly lurking and reading. Have followed your saga with the cousin and b'day cake fiasco. I feel your pain! icon_eek.gif

LOL Yes, now I have ANOTHER ONE TO DEAL WITH!!! I had an order from another cousin. (we had this planned for awhile now) A cupcake tower for April 15th.. Her deadline was yesturday for the deposit.. I called her 3 times and no answer.. Her mailbox was full so I couldnt leave a message.. (sigh) I have to order the cupcake tower and if I dont order it TODAY I cannot guarantee that I can have it in time for the event.. I tried to call her again today.. Still no answer.. I think she is avoiding me, due to the fact that they dont have the money.. icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif :cry

oh my goodness... I just called my step-mother.. Her sister is the one I was talking about.. (sister is married to my dads brother) I think I just confused myself.. So lets keep it at she is my cousin!!! LOL
anywho, she said " I'm glad you called me, but I am now in charge of the cake.. When do you need the deposit?" I said " Yesturday!!". She said " oh no, I don't have the money right now, I was thinking about if I can pay you the day of the Event.". I was like " wtf".. icon_confused.gif I simply said " I cannot do that, I need the money today.. I think it would be better if you go to wal mart. They have pretty cakes and maybe you can make a payment plan with them. I just will have to walk away from this one". She said " I understand, I will have to find another route.. Thanks for calling me though"..
icon_eek.gif OMG just like that!!!!
I walked away and I feel better!!! Now I can make plans to go out of town for Easter weekend!!!!!!!

thanks for all the suggestions. I really like the tribbles idea. The cake is actually for a music concert my fiance is doing with the local concert band he directs. They are playing the music from the tribbles episode....could work.

thanks

Hi. My husband and I are trekkies. I looked every where to find a Star Trek cake for his birthday. Finally the night before his birthday, I was looking around our house for ideas. (He has a HUGE collection of Star Trek stuff) If you have ever watched the shows, (at least The Next Generation and Voyager and the movie First Contact), you would probably know what a Borg ship is; if not, any true Trekkie would. He had a model of a Borg ship that I used to make a copy after. I have posted that cake on here. He loved it so much that he would not let anyone cut it. As of today, the cake is still in our freezer! LOL! I wanted to make the Enterprise also, but I am still looking for an idea on how to do it. I might just try it the next day off I have. Hopefully this could help anyone looking for Star Trek ideas.
