This would be my second wedding cake if she decides to order. She sent me this picture by email and asked for a quote. It's a 14x10x6 with chocolate seashells and gumpaste flowers.

I quoted her $300, no delivery or setup fee. That's the lowest I feel that I can go on it. What do you all think??

She also is only having about 30-40 guest at the wedding so this cake is really larger than she needs. I emailed her the original quote and haven't gotten a response. Do you think I should send a second email and let her know if she wants a smaller version that I could do a 10x8x6? And if so, what kind of price for that one?

Thanks[/img]

Well my personal price for this cake in the smaller version would be 175 (about $210), including local delivery & set up. I think that's fair - those flowers are going to take some work!

I should have added that my price for the bigger one (inc, del & set up) would be 290 ($345) - so you're about right, I definately wouldn't go any less than $300 on the bigger version!

maybe if she wants less cake you could make one lay a cake dummy??? Then they would have the appearance of a big "grand" cake but not so much cake leftover??? I think your prices are cheap!!!! I've seen people charge as much as $6 per serving!!! That cake looks simple, but a lot of work will go into it.

Thanks for the replies. I just emailed her back giving her the smaller version as an option but haven't gotten a reply. I was thinking my prices should have been about right for my area but forgot to give her the smaller version as an option. Although, being she hasn't replied...I'm thinking she's wanting something for nothing! lol Oh well..

If my math is correct if you charge $300, that is only $1.80 per serving. Is that right? Wow, with all that work{chocolate molds, gumpaste flowers, not to mention the cake iteself} you would be giving that cake away!

I told her I would do it for 2.00/slice as a favor because she works with my husband and I'm just starting out with selling my cakes. I'm racking my brain trying to figure out why she hasn't emailed back. I know she can't get the cake for less that I quoted. The only thing is maybe she was wanting that cake but a super cheap price? It's hard to not get a sale and not take it personal, but I know that is all in it.

I know how you feel. I sold a cake to a woman I used to work with. I charged her $25 for the elmo transfer cake I have in my album. I would have usually charged $35-40, it's a half sheet cake. When I told her how much she didn't seem pleased at all. It is so hard to price cakes right. I always look at it though that it is homemade, not mass produced and takes a lot of time and detail. If she doesn't contact you don't take it to heart, like you said she probably though she was going to get a really cheap cake!

Your pricing is more than fair if she doesn't take your offer and run she is a fool, sorry but you know your time and effort are worth something.
