Hi,
If I make buttercream using butter (and crisco) and heavy cream, and cover the cake with fondant, can I leave it out of the fridge, and for how long? What if I just use that icing to ice a cake, does it have to go in the fridge??Thanks in advance...
JoAnn
If it has to go in the fridge, what's a good buttercream reciepe to use instead? I need one that can be left out..
i don't know about the fondant covered cake in the fridge - i hear different conflicting things about fondant - depending on the type. however, as far as BC goes, i think as long as you don't have real eggs in there (like the IMBC) it can stay out a while.
the wilton, if you like that icing, can sit out indefinitely! any of the BC's, if you just substitute an egg powder instead of the egg whites (including the IMBC) you should be fine. search the recipe section here for buttercreams and see which ones have all crisco no butter, more crisco less butter, or substitution advice on eggs, etc.
just flash freeze once iced, or refrigerate until hard, then cover and sit out.
good luck!

As long as you use a crusting buttercream, which most bc icings are crusting...it will be fine left out of the fridge.
Go to Baking 911. In her search enging put in storing buttercream. When you get there keep scrolling down 'till you get to the chart. Fearlessbaker
ok...i know I am off the subject. Call me really out of the loop but what does Bump mean? I see it everywhere??? I know I know......Duh

When someone bumps, it bumps the forum up and places this particular subject/topic to the top of the list because whichever topic is being replied to most gets bumped up to the top.
I think i'll just bump everyone now....Ha Ha. My posts never get answered ......because of these pesky Bumps!! Ha Ha
so - here's my newbie question of the day:
is replying to someone's post considered a bump, or do you actually have to perform something (hit a certain key, etc.) to bump? thanks for your patience!!!!!!

Yes, replying to someones post is considered a bump. Everyonce in a while you'll see where someone or the author has bumped...that's because they're trying to get their post back to the top/home page. (so someone is more likely to answer it)
Did this help?
glad it helped....funny how this started about buttercream and ended up about bumping
Yeah, my bumping it brought as many questions and answers as the original question. LOL
