I've never used the pillars before, and somone gave me 2 separator plates with 4 columns. I understand how the columns are placed on the plate, but they also included 4 small (pencil thin) sticks-like pieces that look like they fit in under one of the plates. But, I've never seen them used in the pictures showing pillar construction.

I read somewhere that these fit under the plate resting on top of the base cake to help give added support to the cake plate.

Is this what they are used for???

I have never used that type of plate and pillars but I believe the little pieces attach to the underside of the bottom plate and push down into the cake.

Hopefully, someone with experience will see this post.

Yes they are for support! I never use them because they slip etc. I use the plastic support posts from Wilton that you can cut to the length you want. They were more popular several years back. Keep them you never know when you'll find a great use for them. There is never a dumb question! That is how we learn! Good luck and enjoy you're plates and columns. They will be fun to use!
