Everything was going great - UNTIL - I jammed the end of a cardboard tube from a roll of paper towels into my OPEN EYE! I was removing it from the holder thingy and it wouldn't come off. So I'm really pulling on it hard and my 3 yr old runs into me and hits the floor (running from his big brother) - so I look down to make sure he's ok...still pulling away on that cardboard tube. Just when I turned my head back to look at the paper towel holder and see what the problem was...BAM!! It came off...right into my EYE! It was like one of those slow-motion scenes in a movie where you know what's about to happen but are helpless to stop it! LOL

This was my own birthday cake...posted about it in the ideas forum. So I'd gotten the whole bottom tier done...looked pretty much like what I'd hoped it would. Here's the graphic I worked up on the computer, as I can do this quicker than I can draw it out...lol. http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopic-17688-15.html

This is what I ended up with. The bottom tier was finished before I stabbed my eye, so it turned out great. Had to fill, ice & decorate the whole top tier of this cake after the eye incident. You can tell something went really wrong...LOL. I even had a blow-out on the side - my dam broke. First time that's ever happened to me. The bottom tier is just what I wanted, though the cake was a little shorter than I intended...we just didn't need that much cake...lol. Ended up just sticking the numbers into the cake and putting some toothpicks behind them long enough for DH & kids to sing happy birthday to me and take a few pics. UGH!! Lesson learned: if you only have one good eye...just forget trying to decorate a cake!! lol icon_rolleyes.gif

I went to the eye doctor yesterday and was told that I have one of the worst scratches on my eye that he's seen in a long while. icon_rolleyes.gif It feels like I have a huge shard of glass or something in my eye and if I look out a window or light hits it...OMGosh!! I just cringe it's so painful. I've been having to do everything one-eyed! Sometimes I even have both eyes closed because my right eye is so tired from doing all the seeing on its own...lol. My depth perception is totally off so I've been dropping things that I'm trying to sit on the counter or something...but I'm still a few inches away from the counter, though it doesn't look like I am, to my good eye...LOL. Can't go up or down the stairs without tripping at least twice....overfilling juice cups, my house is a MESS!!! LOL icon_razz.gif But my kids think it's great that Mom has to wear an eye patch! I'm now 'Pirate Mommy'!!! Lots of 'Arrrrs' and 'Walk the plank!' being said around here...lol. 2 more days of the patch and dilating eye drops and I should be fine...I hope!! icon_rolleyes.gificon_razz.gificon_lol.gif

I know your pain. My niece scratched my eye when she was a baby. Then, when my son was 11 months old he scratched my other eye. It was right at Christmas so; I had to go to all of the parties and gatherings w/ a patch over my eye. While we were at our family gathering on Christmas day my husband proposed to me... While I had the patch on my eye and was sitting on the bed chainging our son's diaper. He came up on my right side (side with the patch), got down on one knee and I never saw him until he took my hand. Hardly romantic.

Okay, not trying to go off subject here but wasn't someone looking for a dirty diaper cake idea.

I think that you burst dam looks like a diaper blow-out. Hahahaha. icon_lol.gif

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope you heal quickly. Loved your cake design too.

LOL!!! That is too funny! As a mom of 3, I have to say that a diaper blow-out actually came to my mind too! LOL icon_lol.gificon_razz.gif Good thing I didn't think of that until AFTER I had eaten a piece! icon_razz.gificon_rolleyes.gif

First Happy Birthday. Second if you don't turn it to the back it looks great and you can always say it's a waterfall. icon_smile.gif The bottom layer is really good. And the cake looks yummy. Hope your eyes gets better I know that had to hurt. I felt it reading your story.
