As you all probably know, I'm doing a 3d alien cake this week. I plan on doing the top half of the head in cake (they want it all chocolate). My idea is to use a red velvet cake mix, add cocoa liquor to give it more of a chocolate flavor and then pipe goopy caramel here and there to create an alien brain affect. Do you think it would be okay?

Ideas: What if you were to stir in some rice krispies for a lumpy effect?
I thought Alien brains were green? How bout using the same technique used to make cobblestones (balls of buttercream flattened with your finger) but use shades of green icing then maybe go over it with a light coat of gel so it glistens?

I'd worry that the caramel wouldn't be thick enough and would run off, the rice crispies might slow it down! Great ideas! Definitely gel the brains to make them shiny - that'll look awesome!

I thought aliens were green on the outside but their brains were grey....I hope I never find out for sure. Do do do do do do do do.....twilight zone theme.
