I am so sad. I made my "Signature" Double Chocolate Layer Cake with Bittersweet Chocolate Frosting yesterday morning and brought it in to work tonight to share with everyone. Well the biggest part of sharing with everyone is to try to generate orders. Everyone raved on and on about how it was the best chocolate cake they had ever eaten. I was very happy that they liked it so much icon_smile.gif However, one of the nurses came to me and said that she wanted the recipe and so did another nurse icon_sad.gif As much as I didn't want to give it to her, I gave it to her. That just kind of kills any hope of generating orders if they are going to ask for the recipe. And I felt like if I didn't give it to her she wouldn't order one any ways because she would think I was being a B*t@h. I didn't want to be rude but now I am so dishearted icon_sad.gificon_sad.gificon_sad.gif I really want to make a business for myself one day and get away from working in the hospital. Sorry I am so discouraged but I knew y'all would understand.

Bless you! That's really tough and I sympathise. I know this sounds mean, but I'd have left out an ingredient in the recipe that makes it your signature piece - then when they made it yours would still be MUCH better icon_redface.gif . Maybe then they would come back to you for orders! Everyone's entitled to their 'secret' ingredients - just ask KFC icon_lol.gif

I thought of that!!!! But then that would not be very Christian of me so I didn't do it. I was very convicted for even thinking it icon_sad.gif

Don't worry Susan - by the time you manage to set your buisnies to work proparly you'd find 10 better recipes! Besides it's not just in the recipe - she won't be able to do it the way you do it so there is really nothing to worry about! When you'll have a buisnies of your own you will just say you're sorry but it's a buisnies secreticon_wink.gif

So they'll order form you no matter what!icon_wink.gif

Oh, I'm sorry, Susan. One thing I've noticed about recipes, though. They don't always turn out the same for everyone - especially in baking. I have a recipe from a friend and I canNOT make it like she does, no matter how I try. AND, most of the time people don't have or want to take the time to do it themselves.

Hugs,
Tracey

Some people can bake, some can decorate, few can do both - they will come to you when they need a knock your socks off cake - you do great work and they will come to realize it is tuff to do both. icon_smile.gif

Lazy_Susan, this topic had been brought up before, I don't know how to post the link but if you go to forums and do a search that says (Have you ever.... people asking for recipes?) you can read what others have done. Hope this helpsicon_smile.gif

I was a caterer and am now a cake decorator. I never give out my recipes. If they ask, I just tell them that they are part of my business and I'm unable to give the recipes out. People seem to understand when I explain it that way.

I'm sorry that happened!! But the good news is that just because they have a recipe, it doesn't mean that they are going to go through all the trouble of making it! I can almost gaurantee that they won't get the same results if they don't have baking experience....and the time.

Don't feel bad about giving your recipe away. It was very generous of you!! I have TONS of delicious recipes for food, but you know what? I like having someone else make dinner, so I have no problem going out to eat dinner, too. icon_smile.gif

Don't worry. You did the right thing.

I feel that God is very pleased with my decision to give the recipe. A few minutes ago I had another nurse come up to me and ORDER a German Chocolate Cake for her Anniversary!!! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

Thank you everyone for all your encouragement !!

glad it turned out Lazy susan.........once you get your cakes out there you're bound to get some orders.......not EVERYONE feels like making a cake on there own anyhow!!! The ONE nurse that ordered from you will most likely be giving it to someone who will LOVE it and then they will order one for someone else and so on..............great job!!!!!!!!
