Right Out Of The Movies!

Just had to share this with someone that would appreciate the humor and the agony. Last night, about midnight I was placing the top tier of a fondant covered, 3 tiered wedding cake. Just as I went to place it on top, I lost my footing and my legs slid apart in almost the full splits! Mind you I have not done anything that athletic since high school! My arms flew up in the air as well as the cake. I tried to save it by throwing my arm way out for balance. Didn't work. I landed flat on my back end, laid out completely. All I could do was laugh and cry simultaneously. Needless to say, I am so sore today that my sister is going to have to come over to help finish the cake. She can't figure out for the life of her how somone could get sore making cakes!
Oh, dear...I hope you take a nice long hot soak...
I also hope you caught it on the slow-motion camera!
I'm so sorry, but I'm laughing so hard right now. If only you would have it on tape you could have won on America's funniest Video's!
Awwwww...that stinks that the cake was ruined...AND you got hurt too? YIKES! I think we all know how heartbreaking it is to lose one of our "masterpieces", I hope you are feeling better soon.
Oh, I hope your legs are better today, ouch. But, very funny! How nice to have a sister that was willing to pitch in and get you out of a very "sore" spot.
So now you can change your name to split ends cakes hehehehehehe.... that was a cute story, but I am glad you aren't seriously wounded in the action of stacking a cake.. be careful next time!
Oh, I so identify with that. I was putting a decorated cake up on a counter, bumped my ankle against a stereo speaker, fell backwards right through a glass window. Had 5 stitches in my back, but I SAVED the cake! Somehow I thrust the cake forward as I was falling and it landed perfectly intact on the counter. My mother was in the kitchen when this happened and (1960s) instant mashed potato flakes had just been invented, she was trying them out for our dinner for the first time. When I fell she threw the opened package of potato flakes in the air and it looked like it had snowed in there.
Thanks for the well wishes! When my husband came home from work today, I was in the bed. He wanted to know if I was sick. I told him the story and all he wanted to know was... "Did you save the cake?"
ShirleyW, I bet your potato flakes were a sight to see. Sorry you needed stitches, though. OUCH!!!
hehehehe..i was reading and remebering me falling down the satirs on my wedding day....u broke a cake i broke the heels off my shoes..hope u feel better and good luck on the cake.
hummmm.... time to start charging "hazzard" pay !! Hope you are feeling better today.....
This calls for a Spa Pedicure poor you blass your heart I always almost drops the cake pretty much all the time

To this day if I have to see a new doctor for some medical procdeure and they see the scar on my back they ask if I had a cyst removed, I tell the
no, just a cake injury.

Oh my goodness!! Are you okay??? I have a bad back to begin with -- one move like that and I'd be in traction for a year!
well i am glad you are ok. bummer about the cake.
I am always hurting myself and usually on stupid stuff. About 3 months ago, I broke my little toe getting out of the tub. Isn't funny how you feel embarrassed and noone is around!

Walk on eggshells and get better fast!!
Hi Everyone,
Sorry it took so long to update ya! I got a little behind and haven't had time to log on. Well here is the infamous cake. It was just a little worse for wear! LOL!!
Oh, I feel fine by the way. Thanks for the well wishes!
Rhonda
I just had a look at your handbag cake - that was a great save and it is beautiful. Did you handpaint the gold design - because that is great!
I was actually having problems loading the picture of the cake I saved! I did not realize it until I saw your message. But, on to the purse. I stenciled the outline of the design. I then filled it in with a paint brush and a mixture of lemon juice and gold luster dust.
Okay Everybody,
Apparently, the picture is too big to be an attachement. So I loaded it into my photos. It is the 3 tier cake.
It's gorgeous, what beautiful work. I'd keep your sister anyday. Are you feeling any better? Oh you haven't enabled the comments to your photos, so we can't comment.
Beautiful!cake Thank God for Sisters. Especially one that can help at a time like this.

We are so bad for laughing when you got hurt but we just can't help it! You're right ... only cake people can understand! hahahahaha!
I was taking a sheet cake into work one day ... 11x15 with a half-ball cake on top decorated to look like a hot air balloon. As I'm walking to the garage, I tripped on some broken concrete in the walk and went flying! I've no idea how I did it, but Peyton Manning (Colts Quarterback) would have been proud! I fell on the ground, did some kind of roll and ended up holding the cake up still in one piece! Tah-dahhh!!!!!!
Ruined my pantyhose, though.
