On front of the 2006 or 2007 I can't remember it's the one that has the cupcakes on the front. They have the icing in a nice large swirl. At the top has the dairy queen ice cream tip. I guess to make it easy the icing looks like an icecream cone. How do you do this and with what tip. I hope I made some sense. If anyone has any help thanks a lot!!!!!!!!
Just use the big star tip ans swirl in three layers reducing in size as you go . Does this Help?
or would it be round tips??? not sure as I havent seen the pic...but i will look around and see what i can find.
if you are talking about the wilton yearbook is the 2007. and that's a big star tip i believe. i've done sorta like a big flower with that tip.

What tip do they use for that big round swirl?
Michelle, that's just the big round tip... 2A? Is that the right number? It's bigger than 12... you start in the middle of the cupcake and spiral outward, then spiral back inward making it higher in the middle both times. If that is unclear, let me know and I will go into better detail!
Edited to correct the tip number to 2A instead of 2M.
Thanks! They look so yummy like that.
Ugh, hijacking again.
THe Sprinkles cupcakes, do you think they use some sort of flat tip? Sorry, not to up on all the terms. www.sprinklescupcakes.com
shows what I know....I thought it was just smoothed sort of with a spatula sort of like icing a cupcake the old fashioned way.....I would never have thought those were chocolate curls!
Ok, after reading what mkerton said I was totally confused, I clicked on the link again and it brought up a different pic. The first one was covered in chocolate curls, the second time it was smooth iced cupcakes with sanding sugar on top!! Weird!!
ok that explains it....whew....I was really second guessing myself!
edited to say I could still be wrong in how i think they are iced...(at least the ones i saw)
That's ok, I got quite a laugh thinking to myself... "Is she teasing me? How would you get that look with a spatula??" then I clicked on the link again and was like, "Woah! That's not chocolate curls!!"
Ha! I was beginning to wonder where I linked to! So do you think that's just smoothed with a spatula or something or is there a tip to get it that smooth? Next time I will double check my link before I posted. Each time I went to the site, I got the same pic, so didn't know it changed. Hee hee. Sorry.
I do just think that is how they smooth it on...but I can't be sure...that is just what it reminds me of
are you sure those are chocolate curls? I think that photo you posted is coconut and not chocolate curls

one the wilton cupcake site they suggest using a tip 1M
The first one i use the big round tip, im not sure the number.
for the second one, that changes everytime... if it's the ones i think it looks like they were smooth with a spatula that gave it that shape. are you talking about the ones white and chocolate frosting w/the little dots on top?
Yes, at first, I too thought it was coconut until I read the description in which it referred to them being covered in chocolate. It does totally look like coconut, but it is actually really thin chocolate strips! It amazed me too, I can't do them that well! Well, I haven't tried, but I'm sure it wouldn't look like that at first anyway! Hahaha!
As for the smooth ones... I am pretty sure they just ice the cupcake and smooth it with a spatula. Then add whatever decors they want. They just look yummy.
Edited to add: I may be totally wrong in what I read, because it really DOES look like coconut. That's what I thought it was at first, but that's not what it said, and it's driving me nuts now! Hahaha! See what you've done!

I actually have the 2007 yearbook right in front of me. The instructions for the cupcakes are on page 98. And it says "Pipe tip 1M (2110) swirl in buttercream on cupcakes: immediately top with Confetti Sprinkles from Flowerful Medley Assortment." HTH
what I can't understand (because Im so dumb probably) is when I try to make swirls they turn out flat. Are you supposed to start a swirl on the bottom then start another one then another one to get the height?
hamlove- Thank you for posting this!! I was just going to ask the same thing! I tried a practice batch of cupcakes with the swirl the other night. It was a horrible failure!! LOL...No I know why, I was doing them wrong!
wgoat5 - you do one complete swirl that covers the whole cupcake, then you do another swirl on top of the first swirl, making sure to come in a little bit so the two swirls are not directly on top of each other. Does that make since?
ok I do the swirls all the time, and I cannot imagine doing another swirl of icing on top of the first swirl.....that is an INSANE amount of icing for a cupcakes isnt it? To me one swirl is a ton!
back to the sprinkle cupcake company, I just noticed their is a soon to be store coming to KC!!! I cant wait to try one!
Seriously, they do that to give them a huge ice cream cone look, and it's so much icing, you just want to pass out thinking about it. Kids love it though.
