Hello friends!

I love the way a fondant covered cake looks with a quilted pattern on it embellished with pearls and such. My question is ~ how do you achieve that same look with just plain BC? I've tried it once before, and you can just faintly see the indented lines, not like fondant at all.

Does anyone have a good technique??

Did you use the plastic mat that does the look or something else?

I used the impression mat and I didn't think it made the indents deep enough either. So what I did was I used the mat, then I took a knife (or one of those rolling cutter things) to go back over the lines. It made the indentions deeper, but I still had straight lines because I used the mat first. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I bought a tool for that at my local cake shop. At first I was looking for an impression mat, but they didn't carry the diamond shape. What she had was a flat piece of thick acrylic that had the diamond pattern on it, but the pattern is about an inch high, so it can do deep or light impressions. I'm not sure what it's called, but here's the website of the shop I got it at.
www.honeybeeshop.com . The owner's name is Carol and she can order stuff. It was kind of pricey though - $20 in store. (course that's nothing like the lace mats that go for $48 icon_smile.gif
Anyway, I used it on buttercream for a baby shower cake and LOVED it!!!
Hope this helps a little.
