Hi! I am looking for ideas and/or pictures for a Phantom of The Opera cake. If you can post a picture for me to go by that would be great, too. I have never seen the movie or play, so any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tammy

maybe you could find a mardi gras mask that looks similar to the phantom mask and mold gumpaste over top of it, let it dry and remove the gumpaste mask and then place that on a cake......and then theme the colors of the cake for red, white, and black.......that would look cool........are you just doing a sheet cake or a stacked cake or what??

I definitely want to see pictures of that!!!
I like the mask idea - you can't do a Phantom cake without that and I agree with the colors - red, white, black - I'd put a lot of red.

Other ideas - a fondant red curtain with gold trim draped over the cake - for the theater
a rose - have to have a red rose!!!!

Post a picture when you're done please!!

YES i agree you need a red rose the mask and then from there it just depends on your decorating level and how much time you have to complete the cake.....

wow! You guys are quick! Yes, I know about the rose and the mask, and I plan on using those. I just wasn't sure if I was missing any other important elements. Like the colors- I wouldn't have known they were so important were it not for your advice.

Sofiasmami, I am ashamed to admit that I have never seen it. I am a huge musical theater fan. Unfortunately, it's an expensive hobby. Hubby and I can't justify the expense of seeing the shows. The Lion King is coming to our city next week and it kills me that we can't take our kids-but it would cost about $400 for us all to go. That's almost a month's worth of groceries for us! Our local high school's are all well known for their musicals. For now, that's the best we can do, but they've never done Phantom.

Thanks to all for your suggestions. If you think of anything else, let me know. ~~Tam

omg..........I didn't realize it costs so much.......I saw phantom when I was a teenager in Ontario, Canada for a school choir field trip.......I wish I could go again...I think I would appreciate it so much more now that I'm older!! and wow 400 for groceries LOL.......I shop for 2 weeks of groceries at a time.......then on my off weekend (the one I don't do grocery shopping) I grab some extra fruits and veggies......and I manage to do it for 200 a month for a family of 5 plus a stepdaughter every other weekend!! and I have two in diapers......lol...I thought Jersey was expensive......of course I'm a very thrifty shopper too

KHalstead, I guess you are better at it than I am. I have 3 jobs and 3 kids, plus being PTA president and a hubby taking MBA classes at night. I don't have time for clipping coupons and such. I run in and get what I think we need and go. Doesn't take long to get over a hundred dollars every week. I try to only get things when they're on sale, but I admit I don't watch it as closely as I should.

My favorite show - I've seen it 10 times - 9 when I lived in London and once here in Los Angeles.

So looking forward to seeing the end result! Good luck.

I don't know where I got this photo, but I've been saving it b/c I was thinking of making a Phantom cake for my sister's birthday (she's a fanatic) icon_lol.gif I just know it's the only one I could find when I searched.

Hope it's a little helpful!

I am a Phantom of the Opera Freak, its my favourite thing of all time. I've seen it twice in the Theatre and about a thousand times on film. Read the book which is very different and nearly wrecked my head trying to tie them in with the story that we all know so well.

My husband took me to London to see the original two years ago and proposed to me that weekend. I had an Opera Cloak over my wedding dress, we used words from "Love me, thats all I ask of you" on the back of our Church Leaflet and the morning of the wedding I had been left a surprise of a swarkovski crystal rose by him.

I cry everytime I see the film/musical and I know nearly all the words off by heart, lol. Thats just to show you how much of a freak I am.

Don't forget the most important elements of the musical are: The monkey music box which plays Masquerade

Image

The Chandelier which is central to the story, which is a complete masterpiece but I can't show you a picture because its so copyrighted they don't have photo's of it anywhere and they won't allow you take them in the theatre either.

If you wanted to do something 3D, a big part of it is the lake that the phantom takes Christine across to his den

Image

Ah crumbs, now I'm singing the music, lol.

Anyway if you want something more than the black and white theme colours another big part of the musical is The Masquerade Ball which you represent wonderfully with a Topsy Turvey Cake done in harlequin diamonds. The film depicts this all in shades of white and gold but the theatre version is multicoloured and fabulous.

Sorry for going on but you hit on my favourite topic of all time and pity my co-workers I'll be humming all day!

Sparklycake, Thanks! Now I know what I can write on top of the cake! "love me, that's all I ask of you".

The cake is for a charity auction at a local High school's dance. The theme of the evening is Phantom of the Opera. I am getting excited about this cake now! It's not until the end of March, so I still have more time if there are any other suggestions! Thank you all so much!

PS: I am just as passionate about "Rent" as you are of Phantom. I love those rare times when I am alone in the house and can sing along to the CD at the top of my lungs!

Thank you, I was planning on going there tomorrow after work. I don't think I would have thought to look by the feathers. I was thinking Party city would have something, too. Thanks again!

Me too! Me too! I sing that soundtrack from beginning to end when I'm baking! My daughter thinks I'm nuts, but likes to dance along just the same!

Good luck with the cake! Can't wait to see your photos!

Now I have the songs going through my head! "How do you document real life when real life's looking more like fiction these days......"

My favorite thing is blasting it while I'm alone, cleaning the house! Did you like the movie? I loved it, but had a hard time not singing out loud in the theater! My husband was laughing at me because I was thumping my fist on my leg to every beat the whole time! icon_lol.gif

Sorry Viki, but I haven't heard from the chairperson of the dance yet confirmming the order. They were supposed to meet this past Monday to decide. She said they would call me Tuesday, but there's been no call. They were questioning whether or not they could accept the donation because I do not have a licensed kitchen. To me, it's no different than holding a bakesale, but there is probably some legal reason you don't see bakesales too much anymore either. I am also Pres. of our PTA and I know that the National PTA does not recommend them. Oh well....

I am very disappointed because I had myself all psyched up about this one. Thank you all for your ideas and inspiration tho'! You're wonderful!
