I just won a ebay auction that had over 300 tips and I just recieved them and well I need to really clean them.. Seem to be in good condition just not very clean.. lot of sticky build up... Is there something that would strip them but wont ruin them? I figured like OXY clean... but open to any ideas!

I would fill a bowl with very hot water and Dawn dish detergent. If that does not work, dissolve a small bit of dishwasher detergent in very hot water. Either way, swish them around for a few minutes before trying to rinse them off.

i found baby nipple cleaners (much like bottle cleaners) at our local dollar store, they are small and the perfect size to use to clean tips.

Dawn also makes a spray product, I think is called Power Boost, it is in a blue spray bottle - that cleans grease off of anything!

If you have one of those small tip brushes, those work well for getting the inside of the tip clean if there is anything stuck in there.

I soak in dish soap and hot water. Then I boil them for a couple minutes.

I soak my tips in hot soapy water then put them in the mesh bag that Wilton sells, I then put them in the dishwasher. Works Great!!!

We have discussed this a few times before so please don't think I am nuts....Someone on here (sorry I forget who right now) suggested putting tips in a microwave safe bowl and COVERING them with water, add a few drops of Dawn and remember to leave enough room at the top for expansion of bubbles. Nuke those suckers for 1-2 minutes. It works great! I will never go back to cleaning my tips with a brush!

I still like the soapy bowl of water with tips sumberged and microwave method!

If I only have a couple, I just throw them in the cutlery bin in the dishwasher!

Every once in awhile I just boil mine in a pan of water on the stove. Drain then let them dry they are so hot they dry fast just don't touch till cool. Should work.

I wouldn't exactly advise that either, but I could see how they might not catch fire if they were in water. I still wouldn't want to take that chance. I do have a textbook from a cooking class that SUGGESTS putting things like foil in the microwave in the microwave cooking section. Isn't that rule #1 for using a microwave...NO metal/aluminum? icon_confused.gif

To clean my tips, I just use A LOT of Palmolive/Dawn, HOT water, and a very small brush (bottle brush, tip brush, toothbrush for braces, etc). It works so far for me, but I could see how you might need something more if they're really dirty.

My husband said new microwaves have some sort of protection against the whole aluminum/metal thing. My son decided to microwave a spoon the other day and it didn't spark or mess up my microwave. Maybe he is right for once icon_lol.gif

Ive boiled them and scrubbed with brush lot of them came clean but some of them are like a sticky rubbery substance... Almost like grease that has been baked over and over on a pan kinda like... Guess I can try a little oven cleaner???? I mean heck they were a good deal got them like 10 cents a piece so worth it ... IF i can get them clean!

You think the oven cleaner would ruin them...

I have had great success mixing white vinegar with my dish washing liquid. I put this mixture with water in a bowl and let the tips sit for a little while. I come back a little later and scrub with the brush. Depending on how thick the icing was or how many dirty tips, I may have to change the vinegar/water/soap mixture out one time. The vinegar really helps cut the greasiness from the buttercream.
