i use the 1/2 crisco, 1/2 butter recipe for buttercream, but i am never able to get my icing nice & fluffy. is it the type of icing that i am using or what? i just beat it on low speed until it looks mixed well, to avoid air bubbles. any advice?

I use the same type of recipe and it gets nice and fluffy........I think it's important to really cream the butter and shortening really well......and I always throw it on high for about 30 seconds after the last addition of pwdrd. sugar........I've never had any issues with air bubbles

I use the same recipe. I always mix mine on low until the powdrd sugar is mixed enough then I put that baby on high. I have never mixed my icing too much. Although, I am sure it can be done.
