Hi. I made two King Cakes yesterday. I followed the recipe from allrecipes.com. The first one was too small, so I brought it to work. (They'll eat anything, LOL) Part of it was a little thicker on one side and when it was sliced, it didn't cook all the way through. icon_eek.gif

Now I'm concerned about the longer one not being cooked thoroughly. It's for a Mardi Gras celebration at church tonight and I won't have enough time to bake another one, as the dough needs to rise. Can I throw this in the oven for another 10 mins or so? Mind you, it's already got icing and colored sugar on it!

I'm not too familiar with king cakes so I'll just bump you up. I'm sure someone can help!

No, don't bake it again!

Stick a skewer in the bottom and see if it seems doughy. If so, I'm afraid it's a goner. Hopefully it's just fine! Good luck!

as far as rebaking with icing and sugar...you're going to have a gloppy mess in your oven if you try that....

if you did manage to scrape it all off and rebake, I would think that it might dry it out AND you would have to bake it on the lowest setting possible so it would probably take longer than 10 minutes.

could you possibly make a slit underneath one end to see what the inside looks like before you go through all this trouble? It could be that your bigger one baked ok but your smaller one didn't because the temp. was a little too high so it cooked the surface of the smaller one faster than the inside?

Thanks guys - I left work 1/2 hr early and remade the cake. I cut a piece from the bottom of the one I made yesterday and sure enough, it was doughy in the middle! I got to the party 10 mins late with a still hot King Cake, but at least it was cooked!! icon_wink.gif
