I have recently started in the cake scene and am wondering where everyone gets their supplies from, I have found that Albertsons isnt the way to go if you need bulk!!! Not just the ingredients for cake but the color/ fondant etc....Michaels is where I have been going for the fondant and decor supplies. Honestly the cost to make it is dropping my profit dramatically. I calculated my last cake at 7 an hour for 14 hours! Now I am new so hopefully those hours will shorten with time and experience! lol! Even pans and things like that. Im in the Seattle area...Any advice would be so helpful!!!!

Your best bet is to buy online. Michaels and all those other Arts and Crafts stores are gerat in a pinch but unless it is on sale you are paying way too much. When I was starting I bought most of my equipment on Ebay then bought other things like colors, dusts and fondant online. Here are a few sites to start you off:
www.sugarcraft.com
http://www.countrykitchensa.com/
http://www.kerekesequip.com/ (the best prices on pans, etc.)
Good luck and welcome to the world!

Sarah,

I agree with the previous posts. You are better off buying on-line. although Michaels usually has a 40-50% off coupon in the sunday paper for the pricier items, and if you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, they have 50% off of Wilton sales about every 1 1/2 - 2 months. I usually stock up on boards and flavors at those sales.

www.cincicakeandcandy.com is another good site to shop.

I've used countrykitchens online too - they have a good selection, good prices, and good customer service.

Go to Costco for your "scratch" bulk stuff. Then go on-line like the others suggested and network with other people on here in the Seattle area. I know that there are at least a dozen or so. If you go this link: http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=15660&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=15 and http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-11845-anyone.html+washington this one, you'll see most of them. Good Luck and happy baking! Your Idaho neighbor!
