I was reading another thread that talked about how you could put something heavy on top of cupcakes to make them flat on top. My question is this, can you do this with sheet and full size round cakes ? Has anyone tried it ? Thanks Jackie icon_rolleyes.gif

When my cakes have a dome in the center, as soon as I pull it out of the oven, I lay a damp towel on top and gently push down the center and around the cake to flatten it out. It does a pretty good job and very little needs to come off to level it. Just be careful of the steam.

oh, of course! make sure what you use does not stick to the cupcakes.
you could use wax paper and then a cutting board. if you need extra weight try adding cans.

I use a dry towel, works fine!

I do the same thing as KittisKakes. I just use my hands, but I suppose you could use a cutting board like with the cupcakes. Try it--I couldn't believe it worked when I first attempted it either!

You could also use cake strips around the pans while baking. The cake does not have a hump when you use them. It lets the cake cook evenly, instead of the outer edges cooking before they rise.

My teacher from cake class told us about the strips. You can by them at a cake supply store, Michaels or Hobby Lobby.

Good Luck with you cakes.
