They do have incredible prices. I had them quote me a price recently w/ shipping and it was still way cheaper than the competition. The shipping will always be high because of the bulk of styrofoam, but even with shipping charges added the overall price was unbeatable. I didn't end up placing my order because of other financial obligations that came up, but they'd be my first choice. : )
Let us know how the service went upon receipt of your order as well as quality issues. Will be good to know!

I really can't wait for them to get here... I want to make a Wedding Cake and take pictures icon_smile.gif There are 2 or 3 girls at work that are getting married and all of them still have not found anyone to make their cake. But when I talk to them about it the first thing they ask is if I have ever made a Wedding Cake before. So I have to say no. But when I get my Cake Dummies!!!!! Watch out!!! I'll be the Wedding Cake Baker!! LOL *just kidding*

I bought some cake dummies from Dallas Foam after reading this topic. I ordered 2 ea of 6, 8 & 10 round and squared, 2 ea of 6 & 9 heart, 2 ea of 6, 9 & 12 hexagon and 1-13X9. I placed the order by phone, because their site did not show a secure link when I tried it.

I'm actually glad I ordered by phone. They will cut the 4" to 2" and you just pay half of the price of what the 4" is. I just assumed I would have to order the 4" since that's all it shows on the website.

Oh. My order was about $45. $15 of it was shipping--very affordable considering just the prices of the cake dummies I've seen on other sites.

BTW, I have been lurking here for months and months, but I'm a shy person, so I don't post a lot! icon_redface.gif

Thanks! I'll have to check it out! I have trouble getting wedding orders too, the cakes I have on there are not very modern so I end up not getting orders. I usually only get kid cake orders.

I order from them. The shipping is quite reasonable considering the size of the box they have to use. The box mine were shipped in was the size of half of a refrigerator box (the top or bottom half). They are super cheap too!

I ordered from this company and the shipping is really reasonable. I got about 28.00 worth of dummies and the total was 43.00 with shipping. I thought that was fantastic given I ordered a lot and the lady told me they were putting them in their largest box. I haven't gotten them yet, but will post again when they arrive.

Gosh... thanks so very much for the link to Dallas Foam Inc. I have a cake coming up in June that requires an 18" dummy tier. I have had to make my own 18" foam tier before. I bought a commerical 'stand' styrofoam electric ''wire'' cutter, for about $51 several years ago, from a floral wholesale house. icon_wink.gif I love that big cutter.

I have made my own petal pan shaped dummy tiers before. Ughh... what a pain. I also re-bought a cheap hand held styro. cutter for craft projects, from Wal-Mart for around $7. I haven't seen more of those in a couple of years. The concept is simple.... just a hand held tube with a metal arm (arc) which holds a taunt wire. It just takes 2 flashlight batteries which heats up the wire. Cuts styrofoam like butter! An inexpensive handy tool, for all kinds of projects.

I checked out the Dallas Foam website from the URL you provided. Terrific prices. thumbs_up.gif I just love this Cake Central website. So much helpful information..... thanks to all of you. I have always told my husband that cake people are known for helping each other. I'm glad that we all help out our fellow decorators. There are enough cakes out there, that I don't see much of the back bitting stuff that I've seen in some other occupations. icon_evil.gif

I use dummy tiers when I have bridal appts. They love to see the actual size and design of their chosen cake. It helps them determine if they like certain shapes, heights, and amt. of tiers that they want me to make for them; let alone making a smaller 'serving' amt. cake look much larger for the reception. I use them for raising a tier higher in order to do piping at 'eye level'. Much easier on the hands and back.

The dummy tiers are invaluable, I think. Thanks again for the great info. ~ icon_smile.gif
