I made a St. Pat's beer cake (you can see it in my photos) and brought it to a party Saturday night and was excited I was actually going to be able to have some for a change. Chocolate with raspberry meringue filling and meringue icing under the fondant - Yum!

They thought it was amazing which was super, rave reviews, great. So I waited until basically everyone was there, then was planning on cutting it in the middle and removing the top layer and serving the bottom layer, figuring not everyone would have some, and the top could stay in tact. NO ONE WOULD LET ME CUT THE CAKE!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif They said it looked too nice! Well what the H@LL good is a cake if you don't eat it??? To top it all off none of the other deserts were any good! I could have consoled myself if there were at least some good brownies LOL!

I even saw the woman who hosted the party the next day at a hockey game and she did not say anything about it to me at all. No email or phone call to say they tried it. So have they STILL not cut it? Or did they cut it and it tasted so bad they don't want to say anything?

HOW FRUSTRATING!!! icon_mad.gif CAKES ARE MEANT TO BE EATEN!!!!

I agree, cake is meant to be eaten. But, what a compliment to your decorating that they hated to cut it. That cake was amazing!! I saw it the other day when you posted it. It is so realistic! I think you need to make yourself a cake, that way you can cut it when you get good and ready.

I wish I could check out the pic, my computer isn't behaving today!!!
I feel your pain, though!! People always ask if it makes me sad to see one of my cakes cut. Heck no!! As long as I get my pics and get enough 'ooh and ahh' time, I'm happy!! Then, let's eat!!

If I have people at a party with a cake I've done, who don't want to cut it because "it's too pretty", I just grab a knife and get started. Otherwise they just sit there and ooh and ah and don't eat. I'm like, "Hey, it's food, and it's really good, so let's get the plates."

Bummer that happened...!

Great Cake! Yep, know what you mean. Made a cake for my son's Friends Christmas Party. When I asked how they liked it he said "They wouldn't cut it...so I ended up throwing it away!" WHAT? I spent M-O-N-E-Y on the cake! That means you EAT IT!!!

That really stinks! My guests said same thing of my stout cake....They thought it was beautiful and like a wedding cake... but we cut it and it was delicious. Then again it was my cake in my house so .... Wish you lived near I would give you some and a nice cup of tea.

P.S. Just took a look at your picture.... That is amazing and sooooo much work. I thought it was made from beer. It looks like beer.... Oh.... Wow... that is soooo cool. I would be hurt too.... all that cake and not a morsel to taste and not even a mention of it .... icon_cry.gif No more cakes for them!!!

When I brought my final fondant/gumpaste class cake to the office, no one wanted to cut it.............so I grabbed the knife and started slicing away - told them it is to be eaten (and that way I can make more)! icon_razz.gif

Thanks for the complements!

Homecook - I was going to do that, but as the night wore on and the "green beer" was flowing I was a little afraid to cut it LOL!

Ah well - next time I will know better and bring a dummy cake for show and a sheet cake to EAT! icon_biggrin.gif

I had to pick up my jaw from the floor. Your cake is amazing. I understand your frustration about them not eating your cake. I made my Aunt a teapot cake(my first); it didn't look no where as good as yours. She didn't want to cut it. I told her I made it for her to enjoy. First with her eyes(hopefully), next with her taste buds. She called me two days later to tell me how wonderful the cakes tatsed. Her SIL came in for a minute, & notice she had cut the cake. He took one of the teacups I made with him. I hope they call you soon to let you know how yummy you cake is.

We are told this all the time. I dont get it. We did 3 cakes a couple weeks ago for the boys scouts bridging ceremony. The woman who bought them said when the cake was cut people were gasping..she thought someone had gotten hurt. We made one for the town museum a year ago and they didnt cut it. They froze it instead. I thought that was so odd.

Did someone pay you for it?
If not, it was still yours -
If noone wanted any I would have brought it back home and shared it with someone who would appreciate it. I WOULD NOT HAVE LEFT IT to just get thrown out!

Oh, that would've teed me off!! They should at least eat some of it in front of you. Don't these people know that half the challenge of this gig is making it taste as good as it looks?

I totally feel your pain.

That cake is amazing! Next time you do something that awesome you should just use dummy cakes for that piece and make a sheet cake to serve. what is a party without cake? They probably just wanted to show it off to everyone they know. It's a beauty! Please post instructions. icon_surprised.gif

I went through the very same thing. I made a cake for a school club fundraiser. I took a pic of the school logo (a clipper ship) and did a FBCT, my first.

My son called for a ride home and told me I was getting my cake back....why?....cause everyone said it was too nice to cut!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRR

So, Monday morning, I drove him and the cake to school and donated it to the teacher's lounge........they did cut it!!

I wonder why people don't seem to realize that saying 'it's too pretty to cut'and NOT cutting it, is the same thing to the baker as 'I think will it taste like cr@p'...
It's an insult to most of us, NOT the compliment it's meant to be.

Tori Ann - that looks sooo cool - what is wrong with people anyway!

I STILL have not heard anything back from anyone about whether or not they ever cut it.

I feel your pain.......same thing happened to me with my guitar cake!!! I mean I went to great lengths and expense to ensure most of it was edible and that it would taste great!! your cake is amazing.......I would have eaten that whole thing and saved the bottles LOL

That cake was totally amazing and I understand why they say it was too pretty to cut, but it is cake! As to them not mentioning it to you maybe they never cut it, or some else got it and they are afraid to tell you. Who knows.

You poor thing! The thing I think is that they are so used to boring flat supermarket cakes that anything 3d just amazes them so much that they focus on the look instead of the double wow!
I always say it's the double wow factor, it looks great and tastes great too, just try it. That usually works!
Aaah, we are all just tortured artists arent' we!? icon_lol.gif (well you guys are artists anyway! You have to admit that cake was worthy of a magazine article, so you can't blame them too much for acting like stunned mullet and not comprehending that it truly WAS edible and VERY edible at that!!)
