Allright my friends, I feel I can call y'all that because we visit everyday..I'm the one sitting in the corner green w/envy at all of your talents and wisdom..now I need some of your wisdom. I'm ATTEMPTING to make a football helmet cake for my son in law, he's a very picky one and only likes lemon cake w/store bought lemon icing. Here's where your wisdom comes in handy. I have given in and am making that cake, I've already baked the cake and am going to torte w/lemon icing but I want to decorate with either mmf or buttercream over the lemon icing if possible, OR he'll have to settle for the torte! What say y'all? Should I use the mmf(which I've never made) or should I be able to use bc and still make it smooth and shiny and how? PLEASE HELP..Thanks for the new addiction, I'm trying to quite smoking now I'm addicted to Cake Central!

If you use MMF, you could still use your lemon icing under the MMF (helps it stick to the cake, just apply it as smoothly as you can.)
If you can use BC and maybe add a little lemon flavoring to that, who knows, he might decide he likes that instead of the ready made! HTH Janice

You can use crusting buttercream and smoothen it with a viva paper towel or interfacing if your not sure about the mmf yet. pm me if you need the recipe.

viva papertowels cakesondemand has got it.........I used it on a spiderman cake I did.....and I was amazed, it gave the appearance of fondant with the taste of buttercream (which I LOVE)....very easy to do too.

flavoring your buttercream with lemon might be the best thing to do since you've never made mmf before and a helmet doesn't sound too easy. You could torte with the lemon canned icing and frost and decorate with your flavored buttercream so you can smooth it. thumbs_up.gif
