I was asked to do a 50th Birtday cake and she asked for a retro cake or with retro toys on it?? Not sure what to do on this. any suggestions would be nice.
Here's a site that talks about all the things popular in the 50s...

Retro means something different to everyone. You might want to ask what decade they are referring to, because I know for the younger set retro means the 70's or even the 60's.
I was thinking the same thing... retro from which decade, and if she's 50, she's not going to actually remember much from the 50's as much as she would the 60's and 70's. I've made retro cakes my "marbeling" different colored icings on a cake to give it a tie-dyed look for around that era.
Hi,
Since she is going to be 50, she may be thinking of the era of the late 60's early 70's. The hippy theme comes to mind for me. I made a cake like that. You can view it when you click on my photos.
It is a birthday cake that had tie-dye buttercream, and a Jerry Garcia bear.
I tried to add it as an attachement, but it's not working.
Have fun, I'm sure it will turn out nice no matter what you do.
