OK so my first wedding cake is coming up Sat. When I took the order-"no problem- I can do this!" , now I am getting nervous.
I made a dummy replica of the cake last weekend for practice and called the bride to come and see it. We made a few changes, but over all she was really happy and was happy with the idea of seeing her cake before the day of.
It is a simple 16-12-8 with swiss dots on all layers and a pearl border. Nothing fancy, no color, no flowers, no problem right?!?! So why am I getting weak in the knees?
Icing is made, cakes baked today, tommorrow I will tort, fill, and let them rest and settle. Tommorrow night after my little one is in bed I will ice.
Deliver Sat. early am construct on site. Am I doing this right? Please tell me to get over it!!

Take a deep breath--you'll be fine. I had the same feeling when I did my first one YEARS ago. Actually had my first misshap just last year, but it was fixable. Always be sure to take a fix-it bag with you. Mine includes my favorite spatula and favorite bags--the ones I have had for as many years as I have been decorating.

Good luck and I am sending a prayer to give you decorating peace.

Breathe!!!!!!!!
My first wedding cake was a 4 tiered fondant cake I had to transport 200 miles. All my decorating friends disappeared after saying they would help!!! Thank God for my husband.
Anyway...it all went well. just remember the important things and like Mac said, take an emergency kit. That's the cool thing about cake decorating, you can always fix it!! (i thnk always!)
Hang in there! icon_wink.gif

NEWTODECORATING--

Are you using the skinny plastic dowels or the plastic tubes? I find that if I am traveling with a stacked cake, I get better stability with the Wilton plastic tubes (some have even used straws). And don't forget spatula.

I'm sending you extra courage via a prayer angel. Good luck--let us know how it goes--Pam

Pam thanks for responding! I am using the plastic tubes. Do I have enough of them for that much cake? And thanks I am off to put a spatula in my box now! (of all things to forget?!?!)

I DID IT I DID IT I DID IT!! I am a wedding cake decorator!! My day went very well! The bride was very happy and said it was exactly what she had in mind. It was a very simple design and not what I would choose, but hey, its not my wedding. I think though with the design I had to work with I did a good job. I stayed to help cut and serve. It was my favorite part of the day. I love all the oohhhh and ahhhh this is sooo goood! I think that is why I am a cake junky, I love the reaction it brings. The DJ was a married couple and they said they do alot of functions. I believe them from their set up, complete with light show. The husband told me that he eats a piece of cake at every function they do and that MINE was the best hands down. He ask for MY number to give out if he had clients who were looking for a cake!
Well I will post pictures tommorrow. I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and encouragement. You all are the greatest. I am off to check on Stephanie now. I hope her day went as well as mine did.
