I was wondering if anyone has ever bought buttercream frosting from Sam's? I was wondering if you can put it in the freezer , will it taste bad after a couple of months? I want to buy this frosting , I have bought the Rich's bettercreme and I put it in the deep freezer. How long can you keep it in the fridg.? Thanks and God Bless, teddybearmom icon_smile.gif

*bump*

I worked at 2 Sam's clubs, and audited others and I didn't see that they sold any of their frostings.... but you could ask the bakery.... if they will sell it to you they will tell you if you can freeze it and probably even how long you can...

I use to work in a wal-mart bakery and we were told the Rich's Bettercrememe could be frozen for up to 6 months, but once thawed and in the fridge it should be used withen two weeks. Hope this helps

I am not sure how much buttercream you are buying at once. If it is in the large 25 lb buckets then you can keep in the bucket at room temperature un opened for up to 6 months once it is opened it is still good for about 1 month-just make sure you stir it incase anything has seperated. Personnally I would not recommend freezing it. We accidently did it a few times and didn't have a problem, but it was only frozen for a day or two.

Hope this helps.

I just recently started buying buttercream from Sam's and I love it! No more powered sugar and shortening mess to claen up. It is so easy and tastes good too, especially if you use filling in your cakes. I have taken icing out and frozen it and as long as you take it out and let it defrost in the fridge or on the counter it does just fine. I have a bunch in the freezer right now!

Thanks, it is the lg. bucket it cost around $42. I wanted it because it would be easier than fixing a batch , because my mixer tore up. And I have got orders coming up and in May I thought I would bake my Sunday school class 5 in. cakes to decorate for their Mom's for Mother's Day. And they are so excited. And I like Sam's buttercream. I'll be using it in March, April and May. I just don't want it to go bad on me. Thanks and God Bless , teddybearmom

The only problem I have with the bc from walmart or sams is that it doesn't crust very well. And sometimes when you mix in colors it gets a little runny great for frosting cakes disastrous for making roses. love the bettercream but it does have a tendency to dry out and get crumbly about a day after you have opened it. sometimes you get a good batch which spreads like a dream or you get the dry crumbly stuff which is a bear to deal with. Airbrushing bettercream is ok but it does have a tendency to "suck" the color into it and fade it out pretty bad. BTW leily, nice to see a wally (past or present). Been the lead in mine for about 2 yrs now.

hi, just wondering for those of you talking about purchasing buttercream from wal-mart or sam's, is it sold off the shelf, like with their regular products? Or do you have to go to the bakery and ask them to sell it to you? How much is the smallest bucket (interested in trying it without a huge $ committment). Thanks!

k yello hun,
to answer your question... Yes, you can buy the big buckets of frosting at Sams but you can't at Walmarts. As for the price I don't know personally, I do know that we buy ours for about o let's see here I think it was like 15 bucks a bucket but that's the price We pay for it. Not necessarily the price that it would go for retail. (I work in a bakery) Not at sams. Hope that clears up some of the mystery.

I purchased the large bucket from Sam's about a month ago for approximately 27.00. I had to go to the bakery and ask them to sell it to me. About a month before, they were not able to sell it due to a shortage but I think as long as they have it, they will sell it to you. I purchased mine in February and the expiration date says the end of June. The lady in the bakery told me to just leave it out on the shelf and it would be just fine. Hope this helps.

I used to work at a Smith's super market and the bakery manager would sell the frosting if she had it on hand but if you know in advance that you need it try haveing the bakery manager order some special for you so that it does not deplete their supply. They may be more willing to do this for you and easier to work with this way! My mom does that all of the time from one of her local supermarkets but she only uses it to ice her cakes and makes her own buttercream or royal to do the acutal decorating with. It sure saves her a lot of time when doing wedding cakesicon_smile.gif

I was wondering the same thing... I use the 1/2 butter 1/2 crisco and the butter really does something to the cake (I think it seeps into the cake overnight) to make the entire thing taste really moist and flavorful. I'd be afraid to change now when I get such rave reviews on what I am already doing. However it sure is tempting to get it ready made as I really hate making icing! Hmmmmm.....

I really don't know the answer to this ? but I suppose it would matter where you got it and what type they used. I am sure that different stores have different suppliers so it would depend on that to an extent I suppose but I do like the taste of the buttercrean that I get at my Smith's store. They also have a whipped crean icing I think but I have never tried this one. Sorry not much help here! Maybe you could go to the store and ask for a sample of the icing or maybe just a pound or so and try it our?!

I started buying buttercream & bettercream from Sam's in Jan. I get sick (bronchitius) everytime I make homemade icing. Dr. says it's from inhaling the powder sugar. Anyway.. I started buying the buckets & I love the buttercream! 1 bucket decorated my last wedding cake & groom's cakes! The sizes were 2 layers each 16", 12" & 8", the groom's cake was 16" square. I was impressed! The icing went a long way. It tastes fine. Not too sweet & not too crisco tasting. It crusted perfectly & I was able to get a very nice smooth cake. The buttercream costs around $35 & the bettercream cost $25 in my area (because the buttercream comes in a larger bucket). The Sam's bakery people told me I can freeze the bettercream. I just get a bunch out when I need it & leave the rest in the freezer. The buttercream lasts a long time. I keep the buckets in my pantry sealed tight. I always put a batch in my KA before I use it just to get it mixed real good before using it. Like someone else said it seperates. Try it you might not go back to making it yourself!

I am absolutly sold on Sam's buttercream! I think the flavor is better than any buttercream I have made myself and it cuts my cake time in half! Question...what is bettercream?

Another question, there is no SAm's around me without traveling about 45 minutes. I know Sam's and BJ's are pretty much the same, has anyone bought buttercream at BJ's and if so, how is it? Thanks.

maddog, bettercream is a whipped cream~ Tastes like a cool whip but a little thicker. Very good!

The Sam's Clubs and Wal-mart all use the same Icing. If I remember correctly they all come from Dawn. They started having all their icing come in with the wal-mart/sam's name on it about 5 years ago but before this they all had Dawn labels on them. I believe Dawn is still making it for them though. This is for the Buttercream icings, Rich's is the brand for Bettercreme

I started adding a couple of teaspoons of cake flour to Sams buttercream to help with the crusting. I also add in additional flavor but I absolutely love it and it is so good to have it right on hand.
