Hi, i am making a birthday cake for my daughter that I saw in the gallery called "this cake is banana's" It is a dome shaped Monkey head. Alot of you have suggested that to acheive that perfect shining icing look that I use a ganache...well, what recipe would be the best and I have to have 5 single layer cakes as well as the dome shape cake. ALso, how would I do this...would I pour the stuff on each individual layer or the whole thing? Or should I just say forget the ganache and do the buttercream and smooth the icing with a paper towel? remember, that on top of the regualr icing i will also need to apply yellow for his mouth area and ears.

Thank you in advance,
Julie

you could do the paper towel method, it does work well......however ganache is so yummy......I usually use 8 oz. of heavy cream for a 12oz. package of semisweet chocolate chips.....bring the cream just to the boil point shut off the heat and pour in a bowl overtop of the chocolate chips wait a minute or so and stir with a whisk until combined.......as far as pouring on each individual cake that's your call.....I have poured ganache over a stacked cake while it was already stacked and it worked well......it all depends on if you want ganache in between the two layers I guess.....
