I am making a cake that I need several colos of MMF and the one that I cannot get the right consistency is the HOT PINK. All the other colors turned out great! icon_biggrin.gif I have tried 3 times, adjusting ingredient amounts and adding crisco, but nothing seem to be working..it ends up breaking apart and not smooth at all. icon_cry.gif I am sure it has to do with the amount of color I have to add and was thinking of trying regular fondant (which I have never worked with...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! ANY SUGGESTIONS???? icon_sad.gif

try adding a cup of pink melted candy melts to the MMF just as you add the hot MM. i do this for my red color to give it a base and then when i actually add the coloring it deepens the color without affecting the texture.. this is also how i make chocolate mmf

Have you tried Americolors? The have an electric pink that is SO bright, on buttercream, anyway. Not sure on fondant.

i just made my grandma a mmf-covered heart cake last week for v-day, its in my photos. i have no idea if other types of fondant take color better than mmf, but it is such a pain to get vibrant colors, as you have found out. here is what i do, first, make sure that you color the fondant and then let it rest for a day. for some reason, i have better luck rolling it out after 24 hours or so. another thing that helps is kneading in a good amount of crisco and and popping it in the micro to soften it up. you have to roll it out quickly, while still pretty warm from the microwave, or else it starts to give trouble again. lastly, i roll it out on a sheet of vinyl, this way i can just lift the vinyl up and plop it on the cake, this way i don't have to worry about the fondant tearing. good luck!

edit: just wanted to add that i tried the americolor electric pink and while its great with the buttercream, it didn't help with the fondant.

I found wiltons pink "Rose Clair" creates a really VIBRANT pink. The first fairy flowers just posted in my photos shows it with royal icing. I have not used it w/the MMF yet since I only just started working w/MMF, but I'm sure it would do the same color if you add enough.
