I might have an order (I'll know for sure tomorrow--budget approval) for 7 dozen cupcakes for a middle school. The theme is Terra Nova Island--a spin off of Survivor Island. Terra Nova is an achievement test all the kids have to take. Since this is a NPO, I give a 50% discount. I need some simple, quick and inexpensive ideas on how to decorate them. The words Terra Nova need to be included in some way. I hate that too...so long for such a small surface plus my writing stinks. Help!

I would suggest melting chocolate wafers (green and brown) to make palm trees. But since you'll be pressed for time and will have to do writing, I would suggest finding gummy candies that would suit your theme.

what about making the camp sign that you see with the tribes name on it or the bandanda (cant remember the name of it) that they wear. you could put terra nova in the sign. YOu could acutally print the signs on the computer and then attach it to some toothpicks or pretezel or something to make them look like trees and put them in the cupcakes. You could also use some cookie crumbs to put on top of the cupcake to make it look like sand.

Just a thought.

Love the idea of adding palm trees! I have some plastic ones laying around to. I don't think I have enough to put one on all the cupcakes but it would make a statement just to put it on one here or there. They come 2 to a bunch too so I'll cut them apart.

cakeconfections...what a lifesaver you are! It never occured to me to print out signs and turn them into CC picks. I could ice the cc to look like water, make an island in the center out of BC, put a palm tree off to the side and have the Terra Nova sign sticking out of the top of the island.

Thanks for the help thumbs_up.gif !

It sounds like you've found a solution but could you make cup cake cakes or do they each have to be individually decorated?

I offered a CCC...but these are going to be divided between classrooms with unequal numbers. I think they thought it would be more convenient to hand them out 1 by 1.

Thanks for the gifs m0use!

Thanks so much everyone! I got the containers from www.sugarcraft.com You can buy them in small quantities there but it's more expensive than buying them in bulk.

I made the sand by piping some sticky chocolate icing onto the crusted cupcakes and then dipping them into granulated brown sugar.

I know what you mean about the tests flayv...it's not a good way to measure achievement/intelligence. The ACT/SATs are the same way. It seems like they measure your ability to take tests more than anything else.

Thanks AngelWendy! I'm sure after taking the tests, they may have needed a little pick-me-up icon_smile.gif
