I am pretty creative when it comes to decorating cakes. I can usually dream something up and run with it only to find it coming out pretty darn close to perfect. I am a "designer" if you will, a creative cake entity (at least to family and friends), and an all around crafty person.

With all that being said....why is it so darn hard for me to come up with a pretty cake table? I put forth so much effort to make a cake so marvelous that you can't take eyes off it (I'm biased and partial of course) but I find the cake table to be pretty plain. I'm talking weddings here, not the birthday table or holiday table. Those I do alright. I just can't figure out what to do with the table so as not to overpower the cake. Do you have any suggestions? What are your favorite things to put on a cake table?

one thing i dont like is a cake table on a flat surface.. if there are other things on the table i like different levels.. does that make sense?? i use books or pots under table cloths just to give it some demension. Of course the cake is usually on a higher stand but everything around it has a little bit of height.. nothing to take away from the cake but to add to it..

I haven't done many wedding cakes, but I like to mass a piece of white chiffon or tulle around the cake stand and sprinkle flowers or rose petals all over.
