Hi there,

I am having a hard time finding a source online for getting some of the key ingredients here in Alberta to make GumPaste from scratch. I was looking to but some Tylose or Gum Tragacanth. Any help in locating some online facilities would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

I live in edmonton and it is currently freezing cold. We didn't have much of a winter but today is looking like it might be the start (-19 with windchill). Do you have a source for tylose or tragicanth in ottawa?

Try a health food store...also, the Canadian site cakescanada.com might offer some good ideas. you might be able to order from artistic cake design here in Ottawa, or McCall's in Toronto.

I get mine from our local bulk store. You could try one near you. Or like MelC said, try creative cutters. They ship quickly & aren't that expensive. Good luck. & come join us on the Canadian site.

If there's a Bulk Barn or Michaels' near you you can probably find Wilton's Gum-Tex to add to your own fondant, or a can of "just add water" Wilton's Gum Paste Mix.

I've searched online for HOURS AND HOURS for suppliers of gum tragacanth or tylose in Canada but was unable to locate anyone who sold it in fair size amounts (I kept getting retailers for the Wilton stuff). The closest I got was finding a drum-sized supplier in China or Turkey and I'm simply not gonna use 200 pounds of the stuff.

If you (or anyone) does run into a supplier for tylose (aka Methylhydroxyethylcellulose) or gum tragacanth (in other than industrial drum sizes) please do let us know.

Not in Canada, but you can get Gum Arabic and Tylose at

Also check out www. sugarcraft.com

Edited to add that link, not sure if the link will work.

Something's not right with the searches by people who can't find the stuff online.

I entered "tylose canada" into google and got many more suppliers including vanilla food company and gourmet warehouse company, that sell small quantities in Canada.
