Okay, so I know we are all in different areas, but how much do you charge per decorated cookie? I just got my first order and it's for a friend, so I don't want to overcharge her. I was thinking .75 or $1 a cookie. Does this sound reasonable? I am going to do some like in my gallery with the baby name.

Well it depends on how big each cookie will be also.If they are 4-5 inches I would charge at least $3.50 but for a friend a bit less.Cookies are very time consuming so you wouldn't want to under charge.

I don't think 75 cents to $1 is enough for ingredients/time/packaging.

I charge $1 per inch of cookie, fully decorated & wrapped in cellophane/ribbon.

$1 per inch. I like that. I've been trying to figure this out. I just sold some bouquets, totally last minute thing. I made up 10 big ones and 6 smaller ones for Valentine's. Brought them in to the office and they were sold within 10 minutes. I have the market cornered here. LOL!! Now people want to order them all the time. I've been making cookies to share for 15 years and just started selling them - just because one friend asked if I would make some for her kids teachers. It's booming. I have in-laws friends asking, kids teachers, other kids parents all wanting cookies. I had no idea what to charge. But I like the $1 per inch idea. I'm sure I can adjust according to decor - if it's simple I may go down and if it's got an edible image, I'll go up. Plus, those bags and ribbon are not cheap. And I buy mine wholesale.

$1 per inch - that is a great idea - I always thought I was undercharging - now I know I am!

I just did a bunch of cookies (45) and charged $2 per cookie. Boy was I sorry!! They took FOREVER!!! I'm going to have to raise my price a bit...just not sure how much yet. Might try Antonia's idea of $1 per inch. Then the cookies I just made would have been about $3 per cookie!!!

I'm glad I found this, because I've been going nuts wondering too. I am supposed to be making about 15 4" cookies for a bachelorette party in March. When I worked out ingredients and packaging/ribbon in the price matrix it came out to $0.70 per cookie just for ingredients..and thats not even including tax!
I was going to charge $1 a cookie but realize that I would be only making $4.50, and actually less then that when tax is figured in (I'm in good taxed to death Canada, lol). And though they are small, cookies DO take a lot of work, once you've coloured all the frosting and done the outlining, the decoration, and then all the packaging etc. Its time consuming, and not worth it for about $4! I still don't know how much to charge, because I know this person and feel weird charging $60 for 15 cookies.

I know all about feeling weird about charging people you know. One of my closest friends is my best customer. She's the one that got me going and motivated to sell my cookies. She pays me more than I charge and says that I undersell myself. Someone that knows quality and is willing to pay for it. She ordered a bouquet once from Cookies by Design and paid $70 for six or seven 4-5" cookies. Now I don't feel so bad when she pays me double what I normally charge. I am going to raise my prices for my cookie bouquets and favors using Antonia74's pricing schedule.
