Hi, I just have a quick question.

Does buttercream go with traditional wedding fruit cake?

Traditionally fruit cakes are covered by a layer of marzipan and then a layer of fondant, but you could go for anything you liked. Im not sure if the taste would be complimentary though.

I agree!
The combination of fruit cake, marzipan and fondant tastes heavenly! Royal Icing instead of fondant also tastes good.
My opinion, maybe old-fashioned.
