I have seen several posts on here about MMF. So I finally researched it and found that it is a homemade fondant? I normally use Satin Ice. Can anyone tell the difference? Thanks!

Fondant, even Satin Ice, is basically sugar, gelatin and flavorings. The commercial product has a stronger flavoring, is very white, and easy to use. MMF is very similar, except the flavor is softer, and it a lot less expensive.

Try making a batch and compare it. For best success, hold back at least 1/4 of the total powder sugar. Depending on the humidity, you may need less that the recipe states.

MMF is fondant made out of marshmallows. Very easy to make--there are many different variations of recipes for it here on CC. Tons of people rave about it, I unfortunately, have a tough time with it and prefer sticking to Stain Ice. If I ran out of Satin ICe though and needed some, I would make MMF in a flash.

I have been meaning to try MMF as it sounds good, especially the tip about adding lemon juice & lemon extract, I think that will give it a lovely taste. I love Satin Ice, maybe after using the MMF I will have a new favorite.

i used to make mmf but now that i use satin ice, i have decided i dont care for mmf anymore. satin ice (TO ME) tastes like a really yummy vanilla buttercream- mmf tastes like well...marshmallows. i would make it if i absolutely had to , but really prefer not to. mmf is definately less expensive, but i buy it in 20 lb tubs, so at 3.00 a lb, thats ok with me....mmf is about 1.75 a lb plus 20 minutes of my time ...(1.25 x 3 batches an hour)....i dont know, i am babbling now but basically i'd rather pay for great flavor , consistant texture and to save my time.
