can an impression mat be used on buttercream after it has crusted? i am making a cake this week and was wondering if i could use buttercream or if i have to use fondant. thanks

You probably could if you are really gentle. I've not tried it yet. Just don't go too deep and maybe dust it a little.

I have used an impression mat on buttercream icing. I thought you always had to wait until the icing crusted. Anyways, it worked for me. It is the photo of the TMNT.

The first wedding cake i did, i used a impression mat on BC three tier. Didn't know what i was doing but left it to chance and it was truly nice. I also added edible pearls for a first also. The icing does have to dry somewhat. Dusting the mat does help. I posted the picture last July. icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

Where can you buy impression maps at I haven't seen them anywhere.
