I have a 40kilo bag of icing sugar...how should i store it? Is it better to put it in a plastic container or metal one? Does it matter? I will probably fill a small container for everyday use and then keep the bulk of it somewhere else. Thanks for any help! icon_biggrin.gif

I buy 70lb bags of sugar at a local Sam's Club and I have an airtight plastic container that I keep mine in. It works great!!!! birthday.gificon_lol.gif

chrissy, do you mind me asking how much a 70lb bag of powdered sugar cost? We have a Sam's club but it is about 1/2 hour away so I am trying to decide if I would actually save anything by the time I get my card and make the drive.

The 70lb bag is $35. They also have it in 7lb bags for like $3.70. I live in Kentucky so things may be cheaper or more expensive there. I do know they said at the Sams Club that every store doesn't have the same it is just what seels best in that area. In TN they have 50lb bags. I hope this helps!!! icon_lol.gifthumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

If you go to the Restaurant supply area at Sam's (not sure if Costco has one, but probably they do), you MIGHT be able to find the Restaurant quality storage containers in 8,10,12 etc. quart sizes. Usually square, but could be circular. These are what I store my powdered sugar and flour in as well as mixed nuts for candymaking. I paid like $22 for 3 - 8qt. sq. containers. I store my Chocolate mixes in the round ones I found at a supply store for about $4-$5 each (6 qt.)

Most restaurants will store flour and sugars in larger trash cans with lids.
