Okay..here is my disaster story that happened earlier today. I had made a chocolate cake for my husband. I had already filled the cake with chocolate fudge filling, and had frosted it with chocolate buttercream. I was letting the buttercream crust over so that I could get it really smooth before decorating it when the doorbell rang. I went to the door and it was the UPS guy. I signed for my package and walked into the dining room. I noticed that the house was really quiet, which it never is with a 2 year old and an 8 month old. I looked in the kids' rooms and neither was in there. I walked into the kitchen (where the cake was) and saw my daughter sitting on the floor...surrounded by cake crumbs....there were cake crumbs from the counter where the cake was sitting all the way to the cabinent on the other side of the kitchen. I looked over at the cake and about half of it was gone ...I started calling for my son, but did not get a reply..I finally went over by the cabinent where the crumbs led to and called his name...then I heard..."Hayden's not in here, mommy", which the little voice sounded distinctly like my son, Hayden. I opened up the cabinent to find that he had crawled in the cabinent with the pots and pans..and had been eating my cake...chocolate covered from head to toe..and incriminating cake evidence in the cabinent. I asked him what happed to the cake, and he told me that the baby had gotten mommy's cake. I asked him how she got the cake...and why if she got it , it was all over his face and hands...he said that she climbed upon the counter and got it(the same baby that does the "froggy hop" because she can't crawl)...I asked him why he was eating it and he told me that when the cake was falling from the counter, he caught it and it got all over his hand and face. After I have cooled down a bit, it is kinda funny, but we definitely have some fibbing issues on our hands.
It is rather funny,I defintely can understand how you feel.I've had cakes get ruined before.Hope you have a better day baking.

Loved the story, and I can see the look on your son's face! I learned long ago not to scold harshly for something like this. (I USED to keep the peanut butter, jam, sugar & etc. on the table top with a 2 & 4 yr old early risers)
jscakes,
I told him that the cake was suppose to be for daddy..and just think how sad daddy is going to be now that he is not going to have a cake. I have learned that this works a lot better on my son that scolding him harshly. He had much rather have a spanking than for me to take him to his room and give him a speech.
Hey, if you could have gotten it all on video, you could stand a chance to win on the TV show! This is priceless, I can just see those little faces covered in chocolate! Did you at least get a photo? Janice
Heehee,
Very creative little two year old isn't he, haha! Sorry, I am sure it wasn't funny, not the mess or the lack of cake for hubby! Seems to remember back, the ages 2-4 are the fibbing years are they not? He is building his imagination too! Probably make a great lawyer someday, for the defense! Sounds like you really are adept at handling the situation though! Really must have been hard to do with a straight face though!
Adorable story!

Oh, I think that is the cutest story. I am sure that you were about to crack when you saw the cake. But we know how we are about sweets, so it is hard to deny a kid almost anything. I think that you handled the situation rather well. And just think of all the laughs you will get later from the pics!!
Happy Baking!!

We have angels in the house here.....ya right...each say they didnt do it, but I can usually tell who did.....fibbing still goes on here...my 14 year old is the biggest fibber and thats very irritating!
Sweeterbug- I am so sorry about your cake. But I did get a good laugh about your cake. Don't know how I did it, but my son has never been one to destroy cakes. But I almost always make sure that if he is in the house when I am doing my cakes that he can either help me with the baking or I let him have some icing or I let him have any cake cuttings or if I have leftover batter I make extra little cakes for him to eat.
In fact, my son is better behaved than my husband
