There are impression mats out that are like old wooden planks!!Not sure if there are any for logs though... These mats are pressed onto the fondant.

You could also go to the hardware store and get these tools that you use for paint that look like wood grain. You could use them with food coloring.
Just an idea,
Heather

so how would ya do that? I have one of those wood pattern paint things from Home Depot. Would ya just put some food color in a bowl or something and roll the roller in it then on fondant?

When I read this I thought you meant coloring! icon_redface.gif
I marbled brown into my fondant to make it look like wood.

If you look in my pics, at the frog photo or the Peter Rabbit, the way I made the wood was to Intially cut them to shape, then for texture, take a fork and drag it across, to make it look more realisitic, then watered down brown food coloring and paint, so that it is not uniform looking!

I just made the sunken treasure ship in ( Enchanted Cakes by Debbie Brown). Is this what you are looking for it's very easy cut strips from fondant and just hit it with a sharp knife to get the wood grain effect.

There used to be a tutorial on Diane Shavkin's site. I can't find it. But this is what I came up with:

If I do happen to come across that tutorial I will post a link.
