Ok, well i decided to work on gumpaste flowers last night. Lets just say it didn't turn out like I planned it to. Can you do flowers the same way but with fondant? The gumpaste was sticky and stuck to my hands and wouldn't form like I wanted it to. So I guess my question is, can I do flowers and figures with fondant instead of gumpaste. Or any ideas for gumpaste if im not able to. PLEASE HELP!

icon_smile.gif Yes, you can do flowers with Fondant...you can make flowers, figures, bows, swags, ruffles etc.....I would suggest since you got to the part where you made the gumpaste, but just very sticky, try mixing that with already made Fondant...then knead it really well.. I think your GUmpaste has too much liquid in it. Next time that happens, add a little more gumpaste mix and keep kneading until you get to the consistency where you can shape it. Good luck thumbs_up.gificon_smile.gif

Did you remember to dust your surface with cornstarch? That will reduce the stickiness. What I'll do is dust the surface, coat the piece of gumpaste I'm working with lightly so it won't stick to my mat when I'm rolling it out. If you happen to add too much cornstarch just knead in another small piece of gumpaste to bring it back. It takes a bit of practice but don'give up! It took me a few times to figure out how thin it needed to be etc. Good Luck!

When we use Petal Paste (Gumpaste). We dust the surface with Cornflour first, I've also discovered that a glass placemat is much better a surface to work on than wood or stainless steel for some reason.

Then we roll the gumpaste out so thin that when you place the rolled piece on top of the packet, you should be able to see the label through it easily.

If you using Icing Sugar it will change the consistency of the paste and make it very sticky and unco-operational.
