I made a cake for a friend's daughter's birthday. It is a stacked white cake with buttercream, filled with strawberry/creamcheese filling, 10 inch base with 6 inch top with fondant/gumpaste accents. Board is covered with fondant and ribbon.

Nobody can help me?

Without seeing it I would guess about $45-$55.

Is this a close friend? I'd say at least 60. Probably worth more.

Yes, she is a good friend and neighbor. Our kids play together too.

Well, do you think she is expecting a deal? If it were me I'd probably charge 45 or so if it was a good friend of mine. Then again like flytrap said we haven't seen it so its hard to say. If it was a very extensive design??? I don't know. You may have to go with your gut on this one but I wouldn't take less then 45. Good luck

What I always do for my friend's children is make the cake as his/her gift from our family. If you are in business, you may tell your friend that it is a gift and you would appreciate her putting out your business cards at the party. Who knows a generous gesture like that may get you a lot more business in the end (and possible save hard feelings between friends over money).

I'd agree with pink flamingo, unless she is absolutely set on paying you. But then, judging from what the picture looks like, Not even $60 seems enough, not even for a friend.

That is a beatiful cake! I have been asked so many times to make a cake for a friend's child. I have never charged them for it. The money would have come in handy but the favor for a friend was worth more to me. It was great advertising and yes, I always put my cards next to the cake and that is exactly what my friend expected. Word of mouth and people attending parties of people that have paid for a cake or when it has been a gift has been my best advertising.

You know, what goes around comes around and if you decide that you don't want to charge your friend for the cake the favor will be returned to you two fold. Just wait and see. Not only will you feel good for doing it and seeing everyone showing such awh at your creation it almost worth more.

It is a tremendously beautiful cake and you should be very proud of it! If you don't mind I may remember this one and try it some day.

I did a cake for a close neighbor the other day, a 2-layer 10 inch square cake, and I told her $15. I at least wanted to get the expenses out of it. She gave me $30. If it had been someone else, I would have charged $40. I do alot of cakes for friends, and give them all a discount, but it's starting to wear on me a little. Working for less than minimum wage is no fun.

I came across this situation a few weeks ago. I did a 3 tier cake all in buttercream(10,8,6). I was unsure of what to charge. I ended up charging 65.00 for it.

With the fondant accents and beautiful detail on your cake...I think 60.00 would be a reasonable discount. If your friend knows that you are in business selling cakes...then she will understand and want to pay you for your efforts.

My friend (that I did the cake for) runs a business out of her house designing and making drapes. She insisted on paying me. She understands not wanting to charge family and friends and told me I needed to "get over that kind of thinking"! LOL

Plus all the mom's that were there were telling me they were going to call me to cakes for their kids' birthdays!

well, you get paid, and get new business... nothing wrong with that.
