Hi, all. I just spent 2 hours killing myself trying to make a rosebud!! icon_mad.gif Simple, right?? Not even close. I am so frustrated. I sat there with the directions doing it over and over again to no avail!!! I need to get this just so I can make a half rose! I don't know what I am doing wrong icon_confused.gif , but I would greatly appreciate any help I can get with this. I just figured that I would get some practice in since I am not working today. And with Valentine's day coming up, I wanted to be able to offer as many ideas as possible to whatever clients I get by then. So, please help if you can. This thing is going to drive me nuts if I don't figure it out soon!!

TIA,
Tanya

The rosebud is one of those things that are easy, but pretty much a pain in the butt until you get the hang of it. Well, the important thing to remember about making a rosebud, is to not move your tip. So, after you do the initial petal, you take your tip to the right, and just squeeze the icing out, without moving your tip.........just keep squeezing until it gets to the other end of the petal........does this make sense? Then you just finish off with your green stem.

Good luck!!!

Let us know if you figured it out.

I had problems with the rose buds too! I tried & Tried, and they never seemed to look right. The previous post gave really good info, cuz when I stopped moving my tip, they really did get better. Also, adding the stem made a world of difference. I was just making the bud itself without the stem, and couldn't figure out why it didn't look right. I thought I would get it down pat before trying to add the stem, well, the stem is what brought it all together!

Okay, i tried all of the suggestions and it still didn't work. I just give up. I just won't be able to do these flowers!! Thanks for all the help. But I think I am just dumb to doing these. I have tried everything there is to try and no result. I wish I could do it, but I obviously can not. Thanks for all the help, ladies!!

Tanya,

It's very difficult to learn how to do stuff like this by just reading and looking at pictures. Don't forget that some of us learned it taking a class. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. Sometimes, you just have to step back, and try again later, or tomorrow. Sherry also has a good point, just adding the stem, makes a world of difference.

DON'T GIVE UP!!! Please!!! icon_smile.gif I have trouble with roses & buds, too. The last time I tried, I did at least 15 & I think 3 of them looked realistic. Hey, that's better than the 0 that looked right before! icon_wink.gif

Well, I'm not giving up; so don't you give up either! icon_biggrin.gifthumbs_up.gif

Oh my, I saw a very pretty cake on this site with great roses & I PM'ed the decorator to ask how they made them ('cause for yrs. I've wanted to & haven't gotten them right yet). Well, she PM'ed back & said she bought them already made! I'd never have known! I still want to "master" the art of it myself, though-personal goal thing, I guess.

This was one of the most suprising things I remember learning when I took my first class. That many times you Push the cream forward, instead of pulling back. I think you really have hit the nail on the head, the secret is just letting the cream move forward and not move the tip...

Keep trying!! Once you get it down, you will pump out hundreds of them!

I have another way to make rose buds. I have been hoping to to a drawing of somesort to show it however I have not had any luck finding the time.
Ah HA! I found my explination I did on another board. Hopefully this helps.

I will try to help and I hope I don't confuse you more. If any questions at the end please feel free to ask!!

The way I teach most people to make rosebuds first is with circles. Hold your tip with the large part down, just like when your making a rose. Make two small circles over each other while squeezing the bag consistently *only make the circles with the large part of the tub, the thin part will flare out to make your actual rose petals* For some it takes a little practice for others they catch right on this way and I can go on and teach them the otherways I know.

Another way that I have found that is easier for other is making the shape of a bow. Hold your bag with the large part of the tip down again and Start in the center of a bow, Go up and to the left coming down and back up to where you started, Then go up and to the right coming back down and again back to where you started.

Make sure you are holding your tip at about a 45 degree angle from the cake so that your petals lay on top of each other and not into eachother also. These techniques above are just the motion of your hand and the bottom part of the tip.

If these directions aren't clear enough to you please let me know if I can help any more and I will try to explain in a more clear manner.

I am trying to invision the circle ones in my head, do you make the circles both the same way or opposite directions?

Do you make the circles around the cone or is this just petal making practice before learning to apply petals to the cone?
Thanks

First of all, I do mine on small squares of waxed paper, not directly on the cake and not on a flower nail. I usually put two buds on a square of paper. I put them, waxed paper and all, in the freezer. Then I peel them off and place them on the cake. Then I add the sepalss while they are on the cake.

Holding the fat end of the tip down, I squeeze out a small fan from left to right and back to center. I AM moving the top of the tip but leaving the bottom (fat end) in place. I break away in the center. Then I come back with the tip, (fat end down) and try to catch the end in the middle where I broke away and force it into a tiny curl and squeeze out a little frosting from the middle to the right.

To make the sepals, I use green and tip 3. I just go upward making three "teardrops" first up the middle then the two sides. Then draw out the amount of stem you want or place the thing on the stem part you might have already drawn on the cake.

I'm looking for a picture I might have that showes my rosebuds.

Thanks for all the tips, everyone. I will try them out today and tomorrow to see which might help. I so appreciate everyone taking the time to try to get me moving in the right direction. And I am a righty, KayDay. Hopefully, I will get this down sometime in this lifetime. Thanks again!!

You can do a vry easy rosebud by rolling out your sugarpaste into a long line ..then rolling it back up and slightly opening it at the top......

Not as realistic as a proper rosebud..but they do look very pretty and soo much quicker....

I make them all the same direction. Almost like a small cursive "e" But instead of going left to right, you are going top to bottom. I do mine right on the cake, I don't transfer mine from anywhere.

Hope this kinda makes sense. Once I get access to a digital camera again I am hoping to take some pictures of what I am talking about.
