I hear and see so much about gumpaste in the forums, and I really want to try it, but I can't find any topics on the basics. I know NOTHING about gumpaste. I've taken all 3 wilton courses, but we didn't touch on it at all.
What do I need to get started? I've searched the forums, but everything I've found on the subject seems to be for people who already have knowledge about it. Can anyone direct me to a site? (I was thinking one along the lines of "Gumpaste for Dummies")
Thanks in advance!
oh...I like the Gumpaste for dummies idea! I too took all 3 wilton courses, but gumpaste wasn't mentionned at all. Took me a while to clue in to what everyone was talking about here. I did purchase the Wilton gumpaste kit that comes with the book. I haven't tried it yet, but have read through it a dozen times and I think I could do it....Like anything else, I think it's practice, practice, practice and lots of advice from everyone on CC.......I'm looking forward to reading other replies on this topic.....
I also got the Wilton kit but, haven't tried it yet. I'm hoping to give it a try this week. I saw a christening cake in the gallery that I would love to make for my cousin's daughter in a couple of weeks and it had gumpaste roses. I guess I better start practicing. (Although worst case, I could substitute BC roses ).
One of the Joann's stores near me (CT) had offered a class last fall but, I wasn't able to take it at the time. I'm hoping they offer it again, but I don't see it on the current class schedule.
I recently used the wilton gumpaste mix. I mixed mine with a little satin ice fondant so it was not overly sticky. I found it to be very easy to work with. I used fondant cutter to make stars for my daughter's birthday cake. I attached the stars to floral wire. I let the decoarations dry for a couple of days. I also have the instructions for making flowers...but have not tried it yet.
I've used the Wilton gumpaste mix also. Very, very easy.... you just add water. It's great to make bows or figures because it hardens much faster than say MMF. Try it and play around with it.... you will like it!
