I'm a med student on a tight budget, but really wanted to buy a lot of red fondant for my wedding cake. Last I checked-- it's really expensive ready-made! Does anyone know of a good place to buy bulk red fondant, or an easy way to make it (and get a nice dark red color w/o too much hassle?) I'd be so grateful!!! (And just in case it's important, I'm in Manhattan, New York; the wedding's in Queens).

I believe Sugarcraft carries the bulk fondant in colors, but I don't know for sure about the prices.

Before buying it ready made, I'd at least try the MMF, make some in small amounts and play with the coloring and how it works for you, it certainly is a lot less expensive! Janice

Wow-- this is more helpful than I thought. I will do MMF; anyone have any ideas on how to make a deep red? Like how much of what color should I buy to create a nice deep red?

CC has Americolors on sale right now (great price), take a look at their colors, maybe that will help you figure out what color you need. Also, if you practice with small amounts you can kinda figure out what you need to get the color you want and then go to the larger amounts. HTH

Also, you might PM Colorboy (Americolor rep) here on CC might be able to help you with the color, especially if you have a way to show him the color you want. Janice

I would first determine how much you are going to need with this chart http://www.cakesbysam.com/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=21932&category_id=257

I get my Satin Ice fondant (easy to work with & tastes yummy) from Cakes by Sam. Here is a link to the pre-colored Satin Ice that is $11.95 for 2 pounds. Here's the link directly to the red stuff http://www.cakesbysam.com/store/cart.php?target=product&product_id=21954&category_id=257.

Good luck with your cake! thumbs_up.gif
